Dear all,

Now this is slightly embarrassing...

How do I know which model I have? I don't have the paperwork yet.

It has the independent rear suspension. The obvious ID letters are a large SE molded in the bodywork section under the windscreen, plus a chassis tag with '90  WSEi' with a number around 1691 (could be a few out)

I've had a look using the search without luck

I thought it was a 1990/1ish SEi, but as you can tell I have a little to learn about these cars.

Wide is not the word I'd use for the space in the cockpit - though it's fine for me.

I really want to get it home but towing looks tricky - being a cheapskate I don't want to start spending the budget on a transporter unless I have to. Any advice? It only got to go about 16miles.

Cheers

Umm...drive it?

The trick to distinguish an SEi from an SEiW (wide) is to look at the gap between the rear lights and the body tub.  It the tub has a molded recess to accommodate the inner edge of the lights, then it is a wide body.

I never knew that! Mine is an SEI W

Thanks 7SE for the useful tip.

The rear light sets are individual round units and I don't remember any molded recess. Probably SEi then.

Before Andy gets too witty: :p

a) I could ask the previous owner but he doesn't know.

b) Driving it home would be the top option, but it isn't a runner

So for towing it, what is the recommended way? Should I take off the nose cone first?

Thanks for the feedback

Sounds like a SEiW to me!

Another tell tale is to right of driver and left of passenger where your elbow would naturally rest, the body has a cut away on the wb and not on a narrow (if that makes sence! ).

Where is it? Tow would be the easiest if you dont have trailer.

Where are you and where is the car? If you ask nicely, you might be able to convince someone near you to loan you a trailer, or assist in getting it back. Beer tokens are always welcome around here ;)

Much to do to it to get it running? Always good to see a new face around here. Oh, and you soon get used to the 'wit' ;)

Car is in Gt Shelford, south of Cambridge and I'm in Elsworth northwest of Cambridge.

Car has been stored for a while in an old shed/garage so fair amount of surface rust on wishbones and rails - nothing that can't be sorted. Car has done 5K so hopefully motor is OK and will go with a little fettling. Rolls freely!

For Westy entry level cash (minus a bit) one can't be too picky

Anyone nearby willing with a car/trailer or are experienced in towing? I'm happy to donate a decent 'drink' to your Westy fund.

Cheers

Lloydie

PS please refrain from bidding against me for nice shiny Westy bits on eBay - its most annoying

You have a narrow 1990 year SEi chassis. WSEi is NOT an SEiW...

Ignore the SE legend in the scuttle, they all (well, the vast majority) have that...

My only concerns with towing are:

1) 16 miles is a long way on a rope...

2) The car will need to be able to pass an MOT.

3) Do the brakes and steering work properly?

Hi Lloydie,

Can't help with the trailer but give me a shout if you need any help with the car.

The CamWSCC are a good bunch of guys, it'd be good to meet you at the next meet if you want to attend, you can allways blag a lift with me if you like.

PM me with a list of the bits you need I'll see if I can help out.

Chaz.

Cheers all,

I have now sorted a cheap transporter - probably best thing anyway.

Thanks Blatman for confirming it's a narrow body SEi.

Am keen to meet up with the Cambridge group as soon as poss - need to get a bit organised first, wscc membership etc.

Wish it was May....
