Andoid Posted August 25, 2004 Posted August 25, 2004 Help!! I am new to all this. I need a 4 branch manifold for my 1700 cross flow narrow body westfield SE. Anyone got one spare or knows a good cheap place to get one made? Any advice welcome. Cheers, Andy. andoid@freenet.co.uk
stu999 Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Hi Andy, and welcome. No point in hinting that you join the club You tend to get what you pay for with exhausts. My advise would be to hang out for a S/H one if poss-or shell out to get a decent one made. So folk can assist in local company recommendations, where abouts are you in the universe? Is yours cracked, or are you upgrading a cast/poorly made one? Cheers, Stu
Andoid Posted August 27, 2004 Author Posted August 27, 2004 Hi Stu, I have been checking ebay etc daily but nothing has come up yet! keep searching I guess. Mine is working at the moment but is very small bore tubes, I think it is a modified escort one as it has been cut and welded several times. I am in the Northants / Bucks area if anyone knows a place that will make one for me. Cheers Andy.
stu999 Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Andy, a couple of things to bear in mind when looking at purchasing a S/H manifold for you car... 1. You may find that the 'new' manifold will exit in a different place in the bodywork-which would mean enlarging the existing hole, or cutting new one. 2. The Westfield type manifold (early one at least-not sure if later are different) will only fit if you have an inertia type starter motor fitted. This was discovered by a poor chap who bought a Xflow manifold off me off me last year. The pre-engaged type starter would require changing, and that would mean having to change the flywheel ring gear too-which means engine out... At least with a custom made manifold, the problems can hopefully be overcome, to some extent at least.
Andoid Posted August 27, 2004 Author Posted August 27, 2004 Thanks for the info Stu, Just one question. how do I know what type of starter is fitted to my car? Cheers Andy
stu999 Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Inertia Starter has a separate solenoid (i.e. not part of the starter). Follow the + lead from the battery. If it goes to a small square looking thingy, with other various wires going to it, and another thick wire going to the starter, it is Inertia. If the + lead goes straight to the starter, it is pre-engaged. Please accept my I apologys about the 'square looking thingy' description, if you know what a solenoid looks like... HTH Stu
Chris Elworthy Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 I am in the Northants / Bucks area if anyone knows a place that will make one for me. Cheers Andy. Andy, I had my exhaust manifold (not x-flow) made at Exhaust by Design based near Deanshanger / Buckingham. Look Here 4 years on and it is as good as new.
Andoid Posted August 31, 2004 Author Posted August 31, 2004 Hi Chris, Thanks for the info, and local too! Do you have any idea on how much I would expect to pay? Cheers Andy
