taffy Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Right, We all know a Westy with a standard windscreen is not very aerodynamic! Screen acts like airbrake, creating high pressure in front and low pressure area in cockpit. Hence Westy earhole and other associated buffeting, as air passing screen tries to curl around and "fill" low pressure area. What if we fixed a vertical plate to the nose (of the car stupid! to disturb, break up the airflow over the bonnet thus reducing the force of the normal laminar flow air on the screen and thus the adverse effects already described. Maybee the additional drag of the plate would reduce the overall drag created with the screen? Any thoughts? Rob
Peter Cox Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 hmmm...how would you kept the food from falling off the plate?
taffy Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 hmmm...how would you kept the food from falling off the plate? Hmmm, Peter somehow I dont think you have quite captured the detailed technicalities of this world beating breakthrough in improving the aerodynamic performance of the classic 7 profile!!! Im going down the pub to sulk! Rob
taffy Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Hmmm, No Aerodynamacists about today then! Im gonna strap a 9" diameter side plate to the nose (of the car ) tonight and see what affect it has on the performance! It may cure Mr eddens downhill problem withn one sweep of the dishwasher! Just watch this space! Rob
Mark Purves Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Are you sure 9" is Ideal as by the look of your piccy you a 7.5" headlights.
peterg Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 ....and you already have a pair of soup tureens bolted over your front wheels
taffy Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Ok you guys. My theory is based on sound aerodynamic principles. The theory dawned upon me following a visit to The Golden Cup at Yoxall. After much deliberation and cogitation, everything became much clearer after 6 pints of "Ruddles old b*****k*". The fact I already have "Classic Style" headlamps and sculptured Mudguards already affixed to the fabled Taffmobile (as pointed out by several purists! ), were quickly discounted from the complex calculations being carried out on the back of "A Miss Goodbody " beermat. After many hours of scribbling, the "Plate theory" was born! In years to come, the place in the pub where this event will be marked with some sort of Plaque (rather than the fag burn currently there! ). So be aware all you Spotters out there. If you see a 7 shape gliding silently past with a 58 piece dinner service attached to its nosecone, you will know its history in the making! Rob
Mark Purves Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 58 piece dinner service Taffy don't forget to get bone china to keep the weight down
taffy Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Taffy don't forget to get bone china to keep the weight down Im ahead of you there! The Taffinaria design studio is already investigating the realative merits of Tupperware vs Wedgewood. They have already discounted the use of Paper following an incident on the A513 test track during heavy rain! Watch this space for more on this exciting development (The Plate is Born! ) Rob
Peter Cox Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 In years to come, the place in the pub where this event will be marked with some sort of Plaque (rather than the fag burn currently there! ). Maybe it'll be a plate
taffy Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Maybe it'll be a plate Good man Peter, I can see your a technical man (like myself ). Dont be surprised if a certain racing driver, name of Sc........ appears with the Taffodynamic plate system gaffer taped to the front of his red car. Got to go thats Honda on the phone for me......... Rob
taffy Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 No, before you say anything, I dont know why I posted this in Parts wanted!
taffy Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Thats it, Cant wait to get back to the secret garage somewhere near Lichfield, where the Taffmobile waits, adorned with some strange crockery like appendage sitting neatly on the purposfull Ivory coloured nosecone. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, tonight sees the first test run of the Crockery effect Taffmobile. The A513 will see something very special tonight! A full report on testing will be published on the Boardroom on the morrow. For those of you who cant wait, I suggest News at 10 tonight may make refference to this rare event. To IKEA and beyond!!!!!! Rob
stu999 Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 err....just take the windscreen off! And then use the winscreen to make a nice table/breakfast bar, on which to hold the plates, silverware etc that is now redundant
