I am having problems with my nearly new pc i.e 6 Months old, it looks like i have some sort of virus, i have Norton and have done a full scan and nothing, the problem i have is at start up when i try to open something up it just starts flikering & will not engage. Also when i open up the start menu i can only start programs that are on the left of the screen? can any one name a web page, for a full pc virus search? please. Thanks in anticipation. Quote

Richgm Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 Before you wipe it and start again try Spybot. It may be that you have some spyware thats causing the problem. If it doesn't come up with anything then update it and then try again. Rich Quote
miserableoldgit Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 Make sure you are up to date with Norton virus updates and Microsoft critical updates from their website. Sounds more like a hardware than software problem. Quote
BuzzinRich Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 Get hold og AVG from AVG Free Download there is a free version available for home users, and it blows Norton away in my opinion, been running it for the last 3 years and I've never had a virus get past it (it's caught thousands). Quote
darthurs Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 Didn't you get tech support or a warranty with it? If so you could try calling them?? Dan Quote
craig-c Posted August 3, 2004 Author Posted August 3, 2004 Right first things first, after only 3 months old running with the new 64bit processor Windows crashes spoke to Mesh and had to do a full restore, did this but had no drivers, so mesh had to send me some new drivers, the outcome is that the mesh technical team talked me through the setup of windows, which is why i am having problems now it was setup wrong it is not a virus problem but a Windows problem, mesh are sending me some new software and i have to delete all the windows updates that took me nearly 2.1/2 hours to download, and start all over again not to mention all the software that i have reinstalled so Norton is not to plame at the moment anyway.
