I meant the driving talent of the Westie owner obviously, everyone knows you dont need talent to drive a jap barge quickly  :p  :D

I thought that computers took care of that, all the 'driver' has to do is stomp on the loud pedal and point the wheels in roughly the right direction

thats formula1 :p

If it's what I'm thinking of it would have had a small block Chevy V8 in it  :t-up:

I managed a 12.9 sec 1/4 mile at Santa Pod which would be thrashed by a lot of those boosted up GTR's but there was a (supposedly) 1001bhp Skyline at Bruntongthorpe about 3 years back which I was lapping every 6 laps or so. Bruntingthorpe has some good long straights too. It just wouldn't corner, and obviously has some serious momentum to scrub off before a corner. Was funny to watch him braking just as I changed up.

They have a very fast road car there though. I suspect they'd be great at Le Mans but on most British circuits, a well (or even half decent) set-up 7 will out-perform one.

Then again, after your trackday, the drive home in a Skyline is somewhat more comfortable, and I bet a trackday in the wet doesn't see them slow quite as significantly as a 7 has to slow.

There's a 450HP Skyline that sprints in the southeast, can't remember the guy's name, but it is very quick.  It will beat nearly all the sevens at most events and has taken an outright FTD.  Track days are not the place to make comparisons because of the spread of driving skills.

So are Spints !!!! :D

I was trying to be diplomatic!  OK, the standard of driving at most track days is abysmal  :D

IIRC it was a skyline that took FTD at the esteemed venue of North Weald.  However IIalsoRC, our very own DaveO would actually have been FTD had he not incurred a 5 second penalty for hitting a cone  :bangshead:  :bangshead:

I agree there is some bad driving at track days.

But I bet if you were alowed to time you would see a spread not too disimalar to a lot of sprints !!!!

But I agree you can't compare car performace at track days as there is a vast spread of driver talent. The only way to do it is same driver, same track on the same day !!!!

theres only one way to sort it out and thats to give them both to stig and cane them around the topgear track

Re Mrs Westy's last -

The Skyline at North Weald was one quick motor even round the bends! Not much would stay with it on the day...

It's funny but I have *never* been to a trackday where I had cause to complain about anyone else's driving, and no-one had cause to complain about mine. Everyone has been incredibly friendly and when overtaken, people do not take offence or try to punt you off.

Perhaps I've been lucky. I've heard about these unfriendly days. For example, after a session out with the Skyline chap, he came over and parked next to me, so we spent an educational and interesting half hour making the obvious comparisons and contrasts between our chosen cars.

I've done Se7ens-only (in the widest sense) days and mixed days in the UK/NI, mainland Europe and Scandinavia and have enjoyed all of them, although I *did* crash at one of them. Entirely my own fault and with no-one else involved.

I have heard stories, in particular, about the Scooby guys, but I have to say that the trackday I shared with them in Sept at Castle Combe was one of the friendliest I've attended, and the standard of driving "sense" was better than most. OK, not all were cut out for a racing career but they all wore their common sense heads that day.

Hmm... I appear to have driven off topic. Apologies.

Perhaps I've been lucky. I've heard about these unfriendly days.

Sadly I *have* had to complain about someone's driving.  Twice.  On the same day.  Fortunately I wasn't the only one to do so.

I think it just boils down to the attitude of some people - 99% of the time  things are all fine and dandy but all it takes is one muppet who thinks the rules don't apply to them and it can quickly taint the day.

I don't think it's about being lucky - some of it is about choosing your trackday organiser and the venue and sticking with whomever you are most comfortable with.

FWIW, I've never been to an "unfriendly" trackday, but I have been on track with people whose egos were most definitely in charge  :(

Have to agree with Nick. Not exactly a track day expert (3 airfield days and counting) but on one of those I did have to complain about a rather uncooperative Porsche driver...

I won't even start with the Castle Combe action day I did :)
