low temp xflow fan switch

Recommended Posts

I have a crossflow with fiesta type thermostat housing with the fan switch in it.

Currently the fan cuts in in the mid 90's and off in the late 80's.

At gurston down on tuesday it was getting worked very hard and the temperature was going over 100 before the fan managed to stabalise it. Not ideal.

I believe there is a compatible switch that operates at lower temperatures.

Anyone know what car it is from or what the part number is?

Ta,

Toby

ps. Yes I have done a search! couldn't find anything...

I've put a manual switch on my fan for my Xflow so when sat in traffic I turn it on and then when on the move I turn it off as I find it actually hinders cooling while moving.

Something to do with it disrupting the airflow. ???

Doing this the temp never goes above about 95  :)

I did think about a manual switch. I think this would be ok/useful for things like hill climbs/sprinting but not what I want for general use. Don't see why a properly selected fan switch can't do the job properly. Just need to find out what switch :(

I am tempted by some home grown electronics connected to the temperature sender but that is more work than I want to do at the moment!

there are several diffrent switches with various temp ranges you can fit try a decent motor factor that does lucas switchgear or similar, i can advise with part numbers if you have trouble :)

Thanks Doug, Just been doing a search and found Burton power do them. At least that gives me an idea of the temps available (88, 92, 95 IIRC). I'll visit my local motorfactor on the way home today and see what they say. Trouble is they normally start by asking what the car is :(

Toby,

tell them its a ford escort mk II then climb over the counter and have a play with the computer yourself, thats what i normally do !!

Its getting very annoying when you go into a motorfactors and they won't even look for a part withoput a registration. so..give it to them and then ask them why they can't find it and then carry on as normal !!!

  Muppets !!!

 Rant over

I did visit Camberley autofactors (usually fairly helpful in finding bits and letting me read their catalogs).

Got a very sort "they don't list the temp range in the catalog" :arse:

I'll go back armed with the info you have posted!

Thanks!

Toby
