Screamager Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 Firstly, apologies for plugging the sale of my car here. I'm a fully paid up member honest, but I b*******ed up my account many month's ago and had to register a new username. I've never been able to register the second username so can't post in the car sales section. Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Now the plug - I'm selling my beloved Stuart Taylor after all too brief a period of ownership as we are moving to Canada. I toyed with the idea of having it shipped over, but after spending a week on Canadian roads recently I decided it was a waste of time. Half of the roads are gravel, and the ones that aren't only have a corner every 100 miles or so! Not the most thrilling environment for driving a kit - driving at 100kph in a straight line for hours on end hardly sets the heart racing Info on the car is here. For more info email me at carl@kropacz.fsnet.co.uk Once again, sorry for the post here. I would be interest to know if anyone thinks they know of a worse country than Canada for driving a kit. Matt Lucas Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 We have plenty of straight roads here in Oz, but it won't stop me building mine. Longest straight stretch I have seen is 149km. I missed the apex on the corner at the end and had to go back and do it all again. Does make me long for some of the roads around Wiltshire that I get to drive on when I visit old Ma and Pa Lucas occasionally. Or perhaps the Cornish roads with their granite "hedges" that I gained first hand experience of as a student. Most of our major centres appear to have been built where there are a few hills and even the Aussies have trouble making the roads completely straight there though. Matt Quote
JonnyBoy Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 where are you in canada? i'd have to disagree with your opinion of canada....well.. no actually thats probably fair to to a point. Most of the highways are 90kmh limits and straight. You can find some amazing mountain passes though. I drove Whistler - kamloops- shushwap in a canadian hot hatch... didnt stop smiling the whole 5hrs! I would give my right arm to have the westy out here! It would've been 'awesome'. 30+ degree days, long mountain road cruises.. Well... Quote
Screamager Posted July 19, 2004 Author Posted July 19, 2004 i'd have to disagree with your opinion of canada.... I accept that I probably made a rather large over generalisation for a land mass the size of Europe We are moving to Manitoba, near to the Riding Mountain National Park. Not sure when yet, probably early next year. My limited experience of the area so far didn't show up many corners There are probably plenty of nice roads in Canada, but I don't want to have to drive 1,200 miles to get to them!!!!! I'm planning on consoling myself by purchasing a ski-doo Not quite the same, but it certainly looks like fun Oh by the way, I'm in the North Lincs area if anyone wants to look at the car. Carl Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 get your westy round fernie/cranbrook in the rockies. some mental twisty mountain side roads with no barriers. Quote
JonnyBoy Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 but I don't want to have to drive 1,200 miles to get to them!!!!! fair point. Sleds rock. You aren't cool unless you have a sled and a big FO truck to haul it around. Infact, i'm supprised that people arent selling fake sleds as a truck ornament (gap in the market methinks) I have a 700cc artic cat for sale for a grand canadian. Only needs a little bit of work. While i'm at it.. a 91 Jeep YJ (wrangler) for $4500 (wscc price) and a loaded 92 Toyota 4Runner 3.5v6 for $11000. So, yeah... sell your Taylor, buy a sweet 4 wheeling rig and a sled, a shovel, probe avalanche transceiver, and get it out into the backcountry. sledding in Manitoba one of these would be sweet Quote
Screamager Posted July 20, 2004 Author Posted July 20, 2004 So, yeah... sell your Taylor, buy a sweet 4 wheeling rig and a sled, a shovel, probe avalanche transceiver, and get it out into the backcountry. You've got me quite excited now - it might not be a second best option after all Not sure about the probe though Quote
