hilux Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 What experience have people had leaving their car at a show in the public car park. My son wants me to take the westy out to a car show over the weekend which will probably mean leaving it in the non exhibitors car park What do you all think Quote
adhawkins Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 I guess it'd depend on where it is really. I've taken mine to Silverstone for a test day once, wasn't particularly busy. It was also taken to the Sports Car Day in Hambleden, but then it was parked next to a load of other Westies so should have been fairly safe . It gets brought in to work fairly regularly too, but I can see the car park from one of the windows in our office, so can keep an eye on it. Not sure I'd take it anywhere 'too' public though...tricky one. It's not the Max Power show is it? Andy Quote
steppenwolf Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 IMHO, kit car show OK any other kind of show, take the tin-top ( sorry Hilux's son ). p.s. I've never had a bad experience in this context but then I have never left the car where it could have a bad experience if you see what I mean .... Quote
hilux Posted May 30, 2003 Author Posted May 30, 2003 Hmmmm Its an american hotrod/custom car show If tonneau is on it should be ok (maybe) Trouble is I know i`ll be anxious all day but he loves going out in it Quote
adhawkins Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 What kind of venue is it? Big place or relatively small? I would have thought if it were a smallish thing you'd be Ok, I'd be a bit loathe to leave mine in NEC car park 72 though... Andy Quote
Bob Green Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Leave a picture of the mother-in-law on the dash. That should render the car safe! Quote
Nick M Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Its an american hotrod/custom car show I'd imagine that the sort of people attending that sort of show would stop and look, but very few would actually disappoint you by touching or damaging the car. I've left mine in all manner of places - hotel car parks overnight, multi-storey car parks, car shows, Le Mans camp site, etc., etc. I just try and make sure that there's nothing in the car that someone might touch / steal and if I'm in any way concerned I take the steering wheel too. Last weekend was the first time in a *loonnng* time I felt uncomfortable about leaving the car in a hotel car park overnight. But it was fine - people stop and look out of curiousity more than anything. Quote
DAVE O Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Saw a group from Holland on the M25 this morning- hot rod on a trailer... Sadly the trailer had become detached from the towing vehicle and had rolled with car still attached Dave O. Go in the truck! Where is it... Herts showground M1 J9?? Quote
hilux Posted May 31, 2003 Author Posted May 31, 2003 national street rod association national rally at billing aquadrome in northampton i go primarily to admire the amazing back street, diy garage engineering that goes into these unique cars. it is truly fantastic to see all these `ordinary` tradesmen with such inbuilt engineering skill and talent and flair for design if it were encouraged properly at school........(where unlike germany engineering in this country is considered a dirty ordinary job)........... we have the best engineering talent in the world i`m getting all emotional and patriotic....sniff....sniff Quote
neilwillis Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 Vorsprung Durch Technic as they say in Wolverhampton Quote
Captain Colonial Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 I thought they said Four Spring Duck Technique in them parts. I know they're opening a new Black Country branch of Toys 'R' Us - but since the locals can't understand that, they're calling it Toys 'M' We. Quote
hilux Posted June 2, 2003 Author Posted June 2, 2003 Thought sod it, took my son Jonathan via a/b roads, nice weather Sunday pm Parked car quite prominently (put side screens on for trip to prevent too much leaning into car) Came back from display arena and opposite was a burger van Got drinks and sat and watched loads (seriously) crowding around the car and no one (kids included) put a finger on it. Best bit was driving out amongst all the cars leaving late sunday afternoon and the crowd were lined up watching the hotrods etc as they left and we were cheered, clapped and photographed big time by all the youngsters etc Next year I will go and drive straight into the arena display area cos its a great day, they are nice people and as long as its different it dont matter. Highly recommended..........great bikes, great cars, great atmos Quote
mogwi Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 Just left mine in the Albert Dock in Liverpool for 5 hours (cue scouser car theft, social security cheating, calm down, calm down jokes) No problem Then left it in Old Swan Tesco car park No problem It's only a car, after all Quote
scott beeland Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 He only left it in the Tesco car park when he realised grp doesn't ram raid very well Well this is the city where a bloke tried to ram raid a Pizza Express on a motorbike; missed the window and put himself into the wall resulting in a visit to the ITU Now that's frikkin' stoopid Quote
