Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted July 19, 2004 Author Posted July 19, 2004 That being the case, why do you approve or disapprove, one is forced to wonder? Quote
Blatman Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 Not sure I expressed a serious preference in general, just for the M4 one, because I can use it. There's supposed to be a trial going on (in Bristol, I think) where bikes get to use bus lanes all the time. I think it's a good idea (well, I would), but not for the obvious reasons. I actually think it would help cut the accident statistics for mopeds and commuters, 'cos it gets them out of the main flow of traffic during it's highest concentration. Less accidents mean better traffic flow.... As for Bus Lanes in general, I guess it depends on implementation. Where they are put in seemingly just to reduce a 2 lane bit of carriageway (dual or otherwise) down to one lane during the rush, then clearly this is traffic management gone mad. There are too many shortcomings in the public transport services to make them a true alternative, but it seems local and national government are hell bent on trying to force us to use it. IMHO, us Brits don't like being dictated to, although sadly the vast majority of us seem to have lost the will to fight these things with as much vigour as perhaps we used to. I think we've been brow beaten, and I think the government knows it, especially if they look to voter turn out as an indicator... Right, enough politics, pass me a Stella..... Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted July 20, 2004 Author Posted July 20, 2004 Don't worry, Blatters, you won't be able to afford to get your car or bike out soon! That nice Mr Darling will tax you from armholes to breakfast-time. Oh, and make mine a Tanglefoot - Cheers! Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 I actually think it would help cut the accident statistics for mopeds and commuters, Dont you mean COLLISION Quote
Blatman Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 If yo mean it'll help prevent dead head car drivers trying to kill me because they aren't paying attention, then yes...... Don't worry, Blatters, you won't be able to afford to get your car or bike out soon! That nice Mr Darling will tax you from armholes to breakfast-time. I think he (and hopefully the rest of them) will be out of a job before that happens... Quote
