Squirrels? :D

Seriously though, if it is rodents  :D  or any similar small animal (I'm pretty sure that most of them would squeak if lightly squeezed) then ensure that you don't claim ownership to it. Cos, as it's a vertebrate, if it was your pet you could be liable to prosecution under the new animal welfare legislation  :p .

I can see it now...

Plod: Is this your car sir?

Pistonbroke: Yes

Plod: ...and is this your small furry, squeaky, lightly squeezed, animal sir?

Pistonbroke: Can I consult my lawyer please :D

Small children probably squeak too - blatted past a school lately?  :D  :D

Had a look this a.m. need a bit of help please!

Turning the road wheel the squeek seems to have 'gone away'

but I know its still lurking in there somewhere.

So far I have removed caliper and hub.

Can't get the bearing out yet as I dont have circlip tool to hand.

If I rotate the bearing by hand there is a "noisy bit" in one spot (like the ball races grinding )

Ive inspected the caliper and upright etc. and all seems OK no visible damage signs.

Coupla questions though ....

When I pull the hub out from the bearing the drive stub axle can be moved around ( side to side ) its OK with the nut tight .

Is this normal ?

As I was removing the hub nut I inadvertantly pulled the handbrake lever hard on to stop the hub rotating .

I expected the calipers to move the pads together but was suprised to find they had not moved !

What torque setting to use for the caliper mounting bolts ?

Wessy ally uprights.

TIA

Hi Bernie

bit late in replying cos me PC is playing up!

You should not have play in the stub axle, sounds like the nut isnt tight! IMHO.

The bearing is a tight fit in the upright, and needs carefull pressing if you are goung to remove it!

Your bearing shouldn't "grind" and there should be no side to side play in the hub/stub-axle w.r.t. the upright..

Sounds suspiciously like the bearings, although getting them out is likely to b******* them even if they weren't, and even if you did get them out, you may as well replace them with new 'uns for the sake of  a few quid...

My few penneth! :D
