sqeeking noises

Tripped over the kerb the other day and smacked the O/S rear wheel rim . drove her home but noticed a sqeek from the rear on the side i thumped.

best described as a "squeek- squeek - squeek"

Its not very loud but didnt notice it before the acko !

Inspected tonight but find no sign of visible apart from a cracked wheel rim which I have replaced.

It seems to drive OK  I tried but can't get the hub off, dont have a big enough ammer

The noise is at roadwheel speed, it goes away if i press the brake ped.

Is it possible its the bearing damaged ?

Any ideas ?  Im a bit perplexed !

Thanks  for any advice

My squeaky front wheel, which stopped when i braked, or turned left was a sticking piston in the caliper

What was the fix? did it cost ?

Wheel Bearing or Caliper/brake

Any idea how/ what kind of damage might be caused ?

I carefully moved the piston nearly fully out and removed the thin coating of corrosion from the piston with a nylon sanding pad ( very very fine grade). This will probably be a short term fix, Bring a small jack with you tomorrow, and we can have a look at the meet.

If noise only occurred after the accident then it stands to reason that it is probably accident related.

To crack a wheel is a huge lateral impact and if your set up is IRS it is held together by tubing onto an ally? upright.

This can easily bend/misalign or the hub mounts can crack so IMHO I would have a good look around and see if there is any damage or misalignment. (Possibly a 4 wheel tracking gauge at your local tyre depot would show it up)

Good luck and hope its not too serious  :)

Hi Bernie,

This sound like a re run of what happened to me.

Cracking the wheel rim must have been a pretty good thump?

You may have cracked the upright, allowing the bearing to move, (thus the disc to occilate).

Thus squeeking on pad.

I urge you to check carefully.

Don't give the car too much 'stick' until you find out what's b*******ed

If something decides to fail at speed, it ain't going to be funny

I'd be tempted to strip down most of that particular 'corner' of the car and have a good look and check for signs of damage.

Must be worth it in the long run.

It takes a fair whack to crack a wheel  ???
