david.c Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Tis good advice Paul I went to the G.P. about 15 years ago (when I still had more spare money than the ticket price) for the whole weekend. On the Saturday we walked the entire circuit and sussed out where we wanted to watch from. Got there at 6am on the Sunday to find 'Our Bit' totally packed What made it worse, was my breakfast was threatening to make an appearance following too much ale and malt whisky the night before David Quote
Crash Override Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 On the pit wall holding out the pit board, done this at historic F1 race at Donnington, great fun. Or in the garages with the mechanics, done this to at various touring car races. You could then tamper with MS tyres so he doesn't win again Quote
Liam Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 See as much as you can from different points. Becketts/Club are always good. You have to get your spot early for Luffield. Opening lap Copse is spectacular but be early then wander round to Becketts, take in the speed down Hanger on the way round to Club and shamble up to Abbey/Farm (that can be busy but generally thins during the race). Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Got there at 6am on the Sunday to find 'Our Bit' totally packed 6.00am ..........................Lightweight I remember the European GP at Brands in October (or it may have been September) 85' when our Nige won his first GP We were queuing up at the Paddock bend entrance at 1.00am and that was after a four and a half hour drive down from Manchester, when the gates opened at 5.30 you had to run like Linford Christie to get a good spot, what we used to do was have two runners with a small chair in each hand who would force their way through and sprint to 'our' spot while the other two pack mules would stroll up carrying all our kit for the day Quote
david.c Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 6.00am ..........................Lightweight Well we hadn't got to bed till about 2.30am after the husband who owned the B&B decided to get his Glenfiddich out to give us a nightcap after an evening in the pub sampling all the Real ales they had to offer................boy my head hurt the next morning ...................which seemed to be about 5 minutes after I shut my eyes David P.S. it was the year that Mansell was driving the Williams with Judd engine ....................and it absolutely p******** it down ...........good race though Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 ps. it was the year that Mansell was driving the Williams with Judd engine ....................and it absolutely p******** it down ...........good race though Yeah I remember it well We were on the short straight between Stowe and the entrance to Club right at the front We went into the circuit at 8.00 am on Saturday and came out at 7.00pm on Sunday Those tyre walls are great for hiding from the security guards in, but not very comfy for sleeping in Quote
Fat Albert Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Paul I agree, the best place to watch a British Grand Prix is anywhere at Brands Hatch Ecclestone A55OLE Quote
chris_p Posted July 8, 2004 Author Posted July 8, 2004 Just found out we have tickets for the woodcote stand on the Sunday......already got my radio in hand.....just need to make sure I get there early enough on the sunday to get in......what time do you all think I should get there if I have seats? I'm driving from Nottingham, with a few friends, stopping off in Milton Keynes to pick up another! any advise would be great! Cheers, Chris. Quote
adhawkins Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 If you have seats, there's no real need to get there early. Now there's no morning warm up, the first thing to see is likely to be the F1 drivers' parade. Traffic is an awful lot better than it used to be with the new bypass in place. There's something amiss with your avatar by the way, unless your car really is squashed... Andy Quote
chris_p Posted July 8, 2004 Author Posted July 8, 2004 Cool! - I think the avatar is working now.....you should know us IT folk, we never test anything, we just change it first and see what happens! Thanks for all your advise everyone. Chris. Quote

adhawkins Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Dont know about getting in on the Sunday, I've never done it, I've always camped over The Welsh Wizard and some friends of ours went recently for just the Sunday (the year the new road was first opened, was that last year or the year before?). Anyway, they left really early (something like 5am) to avoid the traffic, and were in the circuit within an hour or two (that's from Swindon, which is about an hours drive anyway). I was supposed to go, but that was during my 'troubles' Andy Quote
