chris_p Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Hi all, I've been fortunate enough to get a free weekend ticket to the British Grandprix this weekend Having never been to Silverstone before!!! - I know....how can I not of been there before!!! steppenwolf Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Having spent three days at the 2002 race, the Best advice I can give is to walk round the perimeter during the race and take it all in. I had fantastic tickets with seats opposite the podium so had a great view of the track on the pit straight apart from the fact that as the cars come round everyone stands up so you have to as well and with all the flags waving, you can't see a thing Walk round, see it from all angles and soak up the atmosphere - you'll have a great day! langy Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 At home sat in a nice comfortable sofa having a cool beer and being able to change channel when it starts getting boring Other than that, i haven't got a clue, never been to Silverstone Quote
adhawkins Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Been a few times...we tend to watch qualifying from the inside of copse (first corner) as you get the cars coming out of the pits... Also tend spend some time at the Beckets complex, watching the cars change direction there is well worth seeing. The Abbey chicane is a good point (the corner before Bridge) as the cars are going fairly slow there and it's a potential overtaking point. The point where you'll probably see the cars for longest is the complex at the end of the lap...if you're on the outside of Luffield you can see the cars coming under the bridge, and watch them as the go through the 3 corners leading on to the start finish straight. Hope you enjoy it, I went expecting to only ever go once, but ended up going every year for 5 or 6 years. You don't fully appreciate the speed and sound of the cars until you get up close to them. studbuckle Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 I agree with both comments. Best place to wath a GP, at home in front of the TV. Best place to get the atmosphere is at the track and just wandering around is pretty breathtaking. Oh and if you ARE going to sit and watch the race, take a radio with in-ear headphones then you can listen to Radio 5 or Silverstone FM etc to hear what's actually going on Quote
darthurs Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 I'm going this year and have got seats in the Luffield C grandstand! Dan Quote

Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Well I've been to about 30 GPs in the UK so I think I may have some usefull advice 1st: camp over for the weekend, the atmosphere on the campsites is great 2nd: Dont walk about on raceday, unless yuo are 6' 6" tall all you will see is the back of peoples heads, I allways watch from Luffield grandstand but if you want good seats you should have booked 6 months ago, I did and I aint saying which are the best seats, if you aint got a stand ticket get there early, 5.00am pick your spot and stay put. Exit of Club is great, you can see all of Vale. Exit of Beckets, you see then coming towards you through the esses. Luffield in front of the stands is also great. 3rd: Walk around on saturday starting at Bridge and go anti clockwise, thats through the main entrance and turn right, get there for 8.30 and take your time, watching the cars from all points around the track getting to Becketts for the final qualifying session. 4th: Have a BBQ on saturday night. 5th: Go prepared for anything an english summer can throw at you, remember its a long day if the weather turns manky, but you dont want to miss a minute of it, F1 cars are a sight to be seen in the wet, I think all GPs should be dry - wet - dry 6th; ENJOY it, and dont whinge about it after, of course there will be traffic jams, of course it will be crowded of course the bogs cant cope with that many people of course its dirty, all them people dropping their litter everywhere. Its all part of the craik We will be on Litchlake Farm Campsite look out for the WSCC Manchester banner and come and say hello. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Best place to watch from is either at home or an ultimate freebie ticket in the paddock enclosure with free everything have a good one Fish - you'll love it Quote
geelhoed Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Best place to watch it from? Behind the wheel of the #1 Ferrari! Quote
DickieB Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 If you want to see overtaking, then you'd best sit opposite the pits. Alternatively come to Pembrey this weekend, where you will see 4 Locost races with lots of over-taking - and about 20 other similar races too.... Quote
david.c Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 You don't fully appreciate the speed and sound of the cars until you get up close to them. Andy Over the last couple of years I have been along to a few of the testing days, which are excellent and free of charge. The site of them coming through bridge and holding the throttle flat through the right hander, sends shivers up my spine every time Also the commitment through the right hander at the end of the start/finish straight is awesome However, I don't think you will have the luxury of wondering around to all the vantage points on raceday David Quote

Matt Seabrook Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 I second geelhoed the cockpit of MS car. Should be nothing in front to spoil the view. Quote
