cidersurfer Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 Diesel strips the bitumen binder from the aggregate and over time will cause the aggregate to be released and plucked from the surface of tarmac by trafficking. Most tarmac by nature is open textured and so it's not only the surface that is affected. Depends how bad it is but unfortunately, the only real way to 'fix' it is to replace the affected areas. However, that's not always practical or cost effective is it? DIY stores will sell cold rolled asphalt in 25kg bags which is usually adequate for driveways if you want. Stu999, you're right, Wickes Tarmac Paint is V good, we've used it to 'titivate' a few bits and pieces in work. Don't worry if it looks blue when you first put it on though. It changes colour as it cures. Additionally, diesel makes tarmac V slippery, check your tyres or be very careful when first setting off! Quote
nlash Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 Won't be of much help to you but i'm a dab hand at getting diesel out of the fuel tank and carbs. Experience taught me all I know Quote
JonnyBoy Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 I have a gallon of jizer now THATS impressive! been saving it up for long? Quote
Thrustyjust Posted July 1, 2004 Author Posted July 1, 2004 Jonnyboy, dare I say my boss gave it to me The driveway is about 30 yards wide and 80 yrds long,so that would be a 5hit load of tarmac from wickes. It has eaten away where the car stood already and the stripe goes right down the end of the drive. DENNISTHEMENACE Posted July 1, 2004 Posted July 1, 2004 If that doesn't work Gunk do a drive way clean, available at your nearest B&Q DON'T USE Gunk,or Gunk Driveway, it melts tarmac Says that on can too. NO aftermarket degreaser is suitable. e.g. Gunk, Jizer, Tetraclean etc. Don't know about other suggestions thoug. Good luck Quote
