stone Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 I had a faulty thermostat housing which I replaced at the weekend. I now have an airlock. It is an 1800 zetec. The symtoms are that the fluid level sits between min and max but on starting the engine the level rises about an inch. The car has a heater and I think maybe this is the problem but am unsure as to how to bleed from here. Any suggestions as to how to solve this. Also what is the recommended way to drain the coolant. I ended up removing the nosecone and loosening the jubilee on the bottom hose. Is there a better approach? Thanks in anticipation!!! I have done a search but didn't find anything! Quote
Al Yupright Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 Trying to remember how I filled yours... I'm 99% certain I just filled the tank up and then let it run for a bit with the cap off. Give the rubber hose sections a good squeezing and you'll see the level rise and fall. You can sometimes dislodge bubbles like this. Its a beggar to get some of the 19mm hoses onto that stat housing innit. What was up with the old one? Cracked? Seems miserly making them out of plastic... Quote
Al Yupright Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 There is probably a small drain plug on the water pump. Tis normally underneath and has a copper washer on it. Cheers, Al. Quote
Mat Jackson Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 May be way off here. I seem to recall the orientation of the internals of the thermostat are key, as there is a bleed mechanism in there. If this is wrong it may have caused an air lock. I can double check the haynes to night if you like? Mat Quote

neilwillis Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 I didn't have any problems after I just removed the blanking screw from the polo rad, and bled the air from there. Quote
