Chris Elworthy Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Totally off thread I am afraid. I have been trying to locate a record that I heard a lot of when in the 6th form. (1978 to 1980 ) The track or album is called "playground heroes" ....I think. It is a funk track and similar in style to Lowell George / Little Feat / Weather Report / Jaco Pastorius / Steely Dan and so on. Have searched everywhere on the web, back-catalogues at music shops and the BBC via a friend. No luck at all. Can anybody throw any light on this. PS - I can whistle it if that helps. Thanks Chris Quote
Chris Elworthy Posted November 17, 2006 Author Posted November 17, 2006 Two and a half years later........I found it I used the "we can answer any question" text service (63336) and they did. The Band was called The Movies and the Album was called Double A The last track on side 2 is called Playground Hero - I found a copy on e-bay, it arrived in perfect condition today and now I feel very old, it is around 30 years since I heard it last, but happy. Another happy ending on the boardroom. Now, does anyone remember the track the BBC used for Top Gear Rally Report in the 80s and early 90s - it was the backingtrack to a song by a girl rock band, all I can remember was it had something like You start screaming in the chorus line. See if I can beat 2.5 years Quote
bill shurvinton Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Jewel by propaganda. Well being totally geeky its the remixed version (jeweled) they released as a seperate album. When I finally get around to getting some racking for all my vinyl it will need another spin. Kids really cramp your music listening time. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Got it on the ipod might have it on cd if you want a copy chris pm me details and i'll see what I ca do. Quote
Chris Elworthy Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 Spot on guys. I found the album and its Duel as opposed to Jewel which is also on the album Thanks for the offer Barry, if I can't find a decent download I'll take you up on that Cheers "Will sleep tonight" of Duston Quote
Boomy Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I have Duel on extended 12" vinyl and MP3 somewhere if you get stuck. I can rip the vinyl to MP3 too if you want a bit of pop and crackle Quote
bill shurvinton Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Got worried and went to check. Duel was the original from 'secret wish'. 'Wishful thinking ' was the remix with the version that rally report used. track Jewelled. Quote

zoso Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Ah thats where that tracks from... They play that on Radio 2 all the time, I knew i'd heard it from somewhere else... Just to make you all feel old, i'm 22.... Quote
YouMustBeJoking Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Funny you should mention The Cars. I set up my turntable today to record a few old LPs to mp3. One of the first out of the attic was "The Cars" from 1978. Quote
Chris Elworthy Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 I had to get my turntable down from the loft to play the LP which started this whole thread off. Obviously once that was set up the floodagtes opened. Just introduced my sons (17 & 14) to New Boots & Panties by Ian Dury & The Blockheads Quote
