What about an Alfa 156?  (although not sure what price they are new)

Had ours about a month now and it is fantastic to drive.

Previous car was an MGF, and although the Alfa is an estate it out handles it by miles.

Would highly recomend one.

Mat

Sorry Mat but we're not allowed Alfa's

Everyone we've had so far (and that's mainly 156's) have fallen apart in a big way

The higher-performance 163bhp BMW 120d achieves 49.6mpg yet is capable of a 7.9 second zero to 62mph time and a 137mph top speed. Instant turbo power delivered right up to the red line results in the 120d posting sharper performance figures than its 2.0-litre petrol equivalent, from £21200 in sport trim.

I know which I'd have and it wouldn't be the Golf
