studbuckle Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 i've got a 2ltr tdci mondeo ghia x and i love it.its got low CO2 emissions, comfortable, has a huge boot, handles really well and is as fast as the petrol equivalent.last year on top gear they put up against bmw, mercs audi etc and it was the fastest round the track by 2 seconds. It's not as punchy as the equiv' VAG TDi though Quote
Boxerman33 Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 The Saab 9-3 in being launched in September with 1.9TDi engine, in both 130BHP and 150BHP. Very low emmsions and very comfortable car. I drive an Audi A4 130TDi and love it but my brother has a Mondeo TDCi which is quicker, more roomy and half the lease cost!!! Having said that shop around for you lease costs, I've managed to wangle a new A6 Tdi for the same money as my previous A4.......Can't wait Quote
ACW Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 It's been said already but if tractor fuel is your thing... you MUST try an Accord. (god I never thought I'd say that). the engine is supperior to the VAG units. The car is mega spec'd for the money and even the placcy trim is too honda. Quote

Buzz PS still waiting for my Audi . I've only been waiting ten weeks Quote
Rob Navin Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I've seen Ducky's superb ! Can I be the first to say what a lovely couple you make Quote
Impney Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Go for the Bora 150. It just flys! New Golf 140 also quick, but guzzles fuel in comparison. Car I had was fresh from VW with delivery miles so probably engine still v. tight. Current Audi has just passed the 36,000 in just over a year and is now quicker and even more economical than it was 10k miles ago. Most VAG diesels are good , though Skoda has softer suspension. SEATs are being pushed towards the sports end of the market. Quote
cidersurfer Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 New Mondeo diesels are great cars and handle well too. Not much to moan about in three years. They eat brakes though. 4 sets of discs and pads in 110,000 miles! Oh, handbrake's crap too, think it was a recall. Quote
Bob Green Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I have only "flashed" through the thread but if you can go for it, try an Audi A4 130 SE diesel. It's difficult to understand why this car would not be desirable. 4 circles on the bonnet and boot…. It’s the D/B’s as far as cars are concerned. I have one! All depends what the P11D requires. Quote
Fat Albert Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Simon If you can wait till September plus delivery take a look at the BMW 120d Same size (ish) as the Golf, 150bhp and it pisses on anything front wheel drive round the corners, supposed to list (start at £16k). Quote
Bananaman Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 SimonIf you can wait till September plus delivery take a look at the BMW 120d Same size (ish) as the Golf, 150bhp and it pisses on anything front wheel drive round the corners, supposed to list (start at £16k). BUT it looks SH1TE. Quote
samcooke Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 120d Sport (sports suspension, seats etc) is £360 a month, fully maintained, 15k miles and once chipped will be very quick. It doesn't look that bad in the flesh, honest. But I'm not allowed to tell you how I know. You can have one in October. And as we all know front wheel drive is for the birds, even on a barge and *ESPECIALLY* when combined with big diesel torque. The 1.9TDi 150 Golf Mk4 is unusable in the wet - you need fourth gear before you get any traction. Quote
cash Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 cant you keep what you have got its only just run in and come to an arrangement with you boss with the money they save.that way you havent got to clear your old car out and you have money for westfield upgrades Quote
studbuckle Posted July 19, 2004 Author Posted July 19, 2004 After getting excited about the Accord, it's out of my bracket I hate the BMW Compact, son why would I like the 1 series? I'd love to keep what i've got and in fact might buy it from the contract hire company as our second car Audi (and BMW) everything's an option and options kill on Contract hire Quote
Ian Podmore Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 It's not as punchy as the equiv' VAG TDi though The Ford Tdci only runs in overboost (250lbft torque) mode in 4th gear and above, when it will match the 130 VAG unit, but the Ford is more refined IMO. But neither handle as well as the ZT CDTi (Power to weight ratio of 76bhp/tonne)so that's what I got even though it's possibly the slowest car on the planet except around corners Quote
Mat Jackson Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 What about an Alfa 156? (although not sure what price they are new) Had ours about a month now and it is fantastic to drive. Previous car was an MGF, and although the Alfa is an estate it out handles it by miles. Would highly recomend one. Mat Quote
