SparkyB Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 I'm moving house in a week or so and need to move my car which hasn't been SVA'd yet. I had been planning to book it for an MOT and then drive back to the new house.... Only problem is all the insurance companies I phoned need the reg number within 4 weeks, which could be a problem since I haven't booked the SVA yet... I don't particularly want to fork out on a car transporter to move the thing 3 miles.. Any ideas guys?? Mark P.S If nobody has any idea I may try a sneaky sneaky 2am drive Quote
scott beeland Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 Can't help you then. Was gonna offer trailer but you're too far away Quote
SparkyB Posted June 12, 2004 Author Posted June 12, 2004 Cheers for the thought Scott. To be honest theres a guy I used to move the car from Hertfordshire to here. It cost me 100 quid which wasn't too bad, but he broke my reverse light switch cable (mental note-- still need to fix that). From what I remember he's based near here so it shouldn't cost a huge amount. It's just me being stingy. Still the sneaky sneaky blat could be fun Quote
scott beeland Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 Resist the sneaky blat....You just know something regrettable could happen.....wait for your fun..........there's loads coming you way Quote
SparkyB Posted June 12, 2004 Author Posted June 12, 2004 Yeah I guess your right... I've got a clean license and if I lose that the insurance will probably go through the roof.. Quote
scott beeland Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 NOt to mention the lack of insurance payout if you stick it through a hedge Quote
Richgm Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 Only problem is all the insurance companies I phoned need the reg number within 4 weeks, which could be a problem since I haven't booked the SVA yet... Am I right in thinking if the car fails SVA then you don't get a reg for it? If so there's got to be a way round this. Insurance companies must (I would have thought) have a provision for a car failing SVA and not getting a reg No. Ring them up again and ask what happens if it fails SVA. Rich. Quote
Westfieldman Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 If its only 3 miles is it OK to tow it with the tin top on a toe rope. Quote
SparkyB Posted June 13, 2004 Author Posted June 13, 2004 Rich, as far as I know you can get a retest within a week or 2 of a failed SVA, the insurance companies said to start the cover on the day of the SVA to cover any hiccups. If 4 weeks goes by then the policy is terminated and I lose my money..... which is very bad. Paul, can I tow the car if it's not road legal? If I can then this is probably the answer... Argh.... why do I have to move house it's giving me the mother of all headaches!! Mark Quote
PhilD Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 Sounds like you've got a very petty insurance company, is it one of the kit car specialists? I am with Sureterm Direct and they were very accomodating. I went through 2 MOT test, SVA and SVA retest over a period of 2 months insured just on the chassis number. Quote
scott beeland Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 Hill house hammond insured mine on a chassis number; but required me to to give them an SVA date and call them when it was registered. Nice Quote
SparkyB Posted June 13, 2004 Author Posted June 13, 2004 Scott, HHH was one of the first I phoned but unfortunately they are ceasing trading at the end of June so can't help. Phil, Sureterm said they needed the reg within 4 weeks (but their quote was the best I've had so far). How long ago did you do your MOT and SVA stuff??? Mark Quote
S8ight Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 try FJ. brought my Audi back from Zurich, they covered it as soon as it hit the UK. all they asked for was a chassis number, gave them the Swiss reg and they covered it under this. dont think i gave them a UK reg for about 6 weeks, they werent in a rush to get the reg number.
