itguy Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 Hi All At the risk of making myself look (a) young and (b) an , I have bought new spark plugs for xflow - NGK BP7ES's, but what gap size would you recommend? (now the bit) - when people say 25 thou, what measurement is that of? Inch/cm ?? (I *did* do a search, but it looks like no-one is as stupid as me to ask this before , and I'm not ashamed!!! Cheers Will. Quote
worzel Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 25 thou is 25 thousanths of an inch, ie 0.025". Steve Quote
itguy Posted June 1, 2004 Author Posted June 1, 2004 Thanks - Any idea on what the gap size should be? Will. Quote
neilb Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 It think that the gap for a standard x-flow is 0.7mm if you are running a sports coil then 0.8 or even 0.9mm Quote
itguy Posted June 1, 2004 Author Posted June 1, 2004 Hi I have a microdynamics ignition amplfier, so presumably I could go for 0.8mm and that should be ok? Thanks. Will. Quote
neilb Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 Generally speaking the bigger the gap the better - more spark, try it at 0.9 see how it runs, check the plugs for colour etc.. if it's a problem take them back to 0.8 Cheers Neil Quote
Thrustyjust Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 35 thou with uprated ignition and 25 with normal ( in my still young, old mans talk) Quote
itguy Posted June 2, 2004 Author Posted June 2, 2004 Right - re-gapped the sparkplugs last night (and I wondered why it was running a little rough (spitting and coughing etc) on Monday ) I had set them to .25mm (oops, and surprised it ran at all! Now set to .9mm for starters but it was wet last night so have not tested it yet. Thanks for all the help! Will. Quote
