Bananaman Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 W32.Klez.E is a very dangerous virus that spread through email. Symantec give you the very W32.Klez.E removal tools For more information, please visit http://www.Symantec.com Recived this e-mail today. Does anybody know anything about this company, i'm inclined to think its Bull . However my P.C. seems to be crashing & freezing alot recentley & alot of the frozen routines seem to include the number 32. A. do you think i may have a virus, if so how do i get rid? B. do you think that ive just got bugs in the system & i need to re-install windows? C. Bin the P.C. & get a clean one (would rather not do this due to obvious expense). My P.C. is about 3years old Pentium 3, 500MGHz with loads of memory, I have a second hard drive (in the computer but not presentley in use) that i was thinking of rebooting with Windows??? Andy Quote
JonnyBoy Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 symantec are a massive company...responsible for 'Norman' anti virus amongst others. They offer details about almost all known viri (?) or viruses and give detailed removal instructions. Quote
Timo Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 symantec are certainly top three and one of the biggest. if you still have access to the web download a free starter version of norton anti virus and then start paying for it at the end of the trial period. alternatively pay a visit to PC world and buy the 2003 version for around £40.00. run a virus scan on your computer and the programme should put all known viruses into quarantine Quote
Mark Stanton Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 The W32 Klez thing has been around for quite a while so may have been sitting in your system for a few weeks Norton's does detect it Quote
ChrisG Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 but McAfee does it better ....but only if you've got a Cray supercomputer to run the client app BTW, as others have mentioned, its Norton not Norman that Symantec make, tho Norman is meant to be reasonable too. Chris Quote
steve wilson Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 I wouldnt put it past these companys to make these viruses themselves then release an anti virus to combat it Quote
JonnyBoy Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 'norman' is my pet name for norton...i didnt know norman was a different package...sorry for any confusion caused by my ****e humour! Quote
Bananaman Posted May 13, 2003 Author Posted May 13, 2003 Thanks Guys Anybody know how this virus manifests its self? Andy Quote
gregh Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 from that symantec site you can find out about more virii than you'd care to! yours is here I think here Quote
kennedyj Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Norton Antivirus (from Symantec) can also be set up to scan incoming mail messages and attachments. I have found mail attachments (paticularly Word documents) to be a prevalent method of attempted infections of my systems (normally the sender being completely unaware what additional payload they were distributing). It only works if you regularly update the virus definitions Also think about a firewall to prevent infection from non-email sources. FWIW -JohnK. (nothing to do with Symantec) Quote
CrashBangWallop Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Try not to use too much peer-to-peer software, as well. Programs like Kazaa and E-Donkey are terrible for it. My Norton has the 'live-update' running. Just forget about it after that. I take it you've got a presentable firewall, too? Quote
