Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Just call me Billy two engines Hey, you know how those bike guys fit two motors, I wonder... Quote
Glen_I Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I know how you all feel, this is f*****g me right up at the moment, sent letter to Vauxhall over a week ago and still no reply....Waiting to book SVA, I had to buy second engine just to take the identity(my real engine is recon so it dont come with valid VX number ) Not all GSI Cavs were fitted with cats, but with your engine number having a prefix starting with 'C' did........ On the bright side...... drove my one today (private land of course ) and its is stupid!!!!!! Quaife box with tallest 1st gear they have, to over come wheel spin, doesnt make any difference, its all over the place Glen. Quote
adam123 Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I'm desperately hoping to be proved wrong in this though, as at the moment I've got a pair of Dellorto's for my VX, and hope to be at SVA stage in the late Summer/early Autumn. If I end up having to fork out for TB injection and a CAT, I cann't see me getting on the road for a while longer. right i will say this again as long as the engine age is before 1995 you are ok and dont need a cat there has been loads of vx engines gone through sva with pre 1995 engines without cats fitted. aslong as you have got the letter from vauxhall stating the engine date you will be fine. adam Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I'm certainly going to try SVA'ing it with the engine I've got; it's just the line saying you don't need a Cat type test if your engine was manufactured before '95 and didn't originally have a Cat that worries me. It sort of implies that if it did, (which mine did. but plenty of VXs' didn't) then I will have to meet Cat type emissions requirements. loads of vx engines gone through sva with pre 1995 engines without cats fitted Excellent point, the key I suppose, is how many of these had the C prefix to the engine number. Be interesting to find out, think I might start another thread to ask that question. Quote
Mark B Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Guys, Don't fret, adam is correct, myself and mud sva'd his vx engined westy during the christmas week, it has an early 90's engine from a gsi, which would've had a cat fitted but this makes *no* difference whatsoever. As long as the engine is pre 95 (can't remember the exact month) you don't need a cat for your sva test, therefore the only emissions criteria you must meet are 3.5 % co max and I think 1200ppm hydrocarbons same as the mot test for older cars. Hth, Mark. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Martin, (or Mark ), how did you prove the age of the VX in the end? Last I remember seeing in a post was something about Autodata discs. Quote

Mark B Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Dave, Martin ended up harassing Johnathan Bell at vauxhall, first he came back and simply said "can't find it" & put the phone down, so he had to complain about the guy to customer services untill he got a result. As scott says, the guy is an A*** by all accounts and charges 50 quid for the privilege but as far as I know it's the only way to do it unless you have a copy of the log book that the vehicle was fitted in.....
