Written evidence of Vauxhall XE engine age for SVA

Recommended Posts

Hi,

does anybody have a contact at Vauxhall where I can get written evidence of my Vauxhall XE 16v engine's age from for the SVA inspection? I know it is a 1988 engine, and it has casting dates from 1988 all over it, but the SVA specifies written evidence from the manufacturer for exemption from the Cat emmisions test.

Don't say that, I think mine came from a Cav GSi too  :(       :arse:

b*******, thats the last thing I'd want in my letter; mine came from a Cav GSi that would have had a Cat even in '92, which would mean me needing a Cat now

as long as the engine age is made before 95 you are ok and will not have to get a cat fitted.

NOTE: A catalyst test is not applicable

if it can be demonstrated by the

submission of vehicle specific evidence

from the manufacturer, that confirms

the date of manufacture of the vehicle

and that it was not manufactured with

a catalyst equipped emission system.

This is quoted directly from the (admittedly draft copy) of this years (March 04) SVA test, sec 18.11.a; and I really hope I'm wrong/have missunderstood  :durr:

But the key bit seems to be prooving that the donor - even though it was the right age didn't have a CAT from new. If it did, like (I believe) all Cav GSis did, I'm in trouble   And will need a CAT

Hmm...but I@m sure pre-95 1.8 and 2.0 Zetec mondeo's had cats too.

This could prove interesting :(

The 1.8 and 2l versions were fitted to a wide range of Mondeo versions though, and I'm sure plenty of the varients didn't have CATS. Certainly enough to not stand out in the eyes of a tester. Unfortunately, AFAIK all Cav GSis' has CATs and the engine no even starts with a bl**dy C (just in case the examiner had forgotten).

I'm desperately hoping to be proved wrong in this though, as at the moment I've got a pair of Dellorto's for my VX, and hope to be at SVA stage in the late Summer/early Autumn. If I end up having to fork out for TB injection and a CAT, I cann't see me getting on the road for a while longer.

I'm tempted to try getting hold of an old pre cat red top engine block, just for the engine no. but the kiddies seem to be snapping them all up for their Nova's  :bangshead:

Well a pre-cat (Astra?) engine will be cheaper than TBs and a Cat!
