Benrobson2999 - Kent AO Posted Thursday at 17:44 Posted Thursday at 17:44 I have googled this and had mixed reviews and techniques. Any personal experience of what to safely use on the gel coat to remove sealant under the windscreen on the scuttle panel? Quote
KevanP Posted Thursday at 17:56 Posted Thursday at 17:56 I've used isopropyl alcohol on mine when I removed the white mastic stuff someone used to glue the vinyl covers that fit over the side as you get in. It took loads of rubbing and scraping with a soft plastic scraper, but got there in the end. Didn't damage the paint either. No idea of it will soften up silicone though??? 1 Quote
Tim (Sideways) Johnson - Club Treasurer Posted Thursday at 17:56 Posted Thursday at 17:56 WD40 works well. If you can get it on a cloth and let it soak for a few minutes, then use a soft plastic scraper of some description (or a thumb nail) it should come off easily enough. 1 Quote
Stuart Posted Thursday at 18:49 Posted Thursday at 18:49 Meths did a good job on our shower trays recently Quote
Rusty Nuts Posted Thursday at 19:51 Posted Thursday at 19:51 I've used these with good result Rubber wheels Quote
Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO Posted Thursday at 20:17 Posted Thursday at 20:17 Try turps, or WD40. Turps on a rag and use your thumb nail to rub it off. Quote

Done it many times. 3 Quote
Flying Carrot Steve Posted yesterday at 12:49 Posted yesterday at 12:49 Try heating it with a hair dryer 1st, that may help no matter which method you use. 1 Quote
KevanP Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago You might laugh at this.. But I've got or had... a nice expensive pair of ear phones that have a silicone covered volume/on/off control built in. Not the first time it's happened, but I've realised sun tan lotion, manages to destroy silicone very well! It goes all very soft and falls apart. So theres an option... probably a bit expensive though 😆 2 Quote
Flying Carrot Steve Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Man gets arrested when caught rubbing suntan lotion into his car and whispering sweet nothings into its wing mirrors 😂 1 Quote

My ex wife insisted on covering herself and our son before going out , Three cars paintwork was ruined where they touched the car . I tried all sorts of solvents to remove it and it looked gone and then came back a few days later . 1 Quote
dvd8n Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago OT but never touch anything painted, plastic or similar after using an insect repellent with DEET in it. It's a better solvent than Acetone. 1 Quote

KevanP Posted 50 minutes ago Posted 50 minutes ago Sun tan lotion is nasy stuff! Apart from stopping sun burn. Never thought we'd ever see a thread on a motoring forum on Sun Tan lotion 😆 Quote
