Rednop1 Posted September 10 Posted September 10 I have a very simple question I have a mega bec that i fancy doing a couple of events with next year I will be looking to be entering road going class My car when it left the westfield factory didnt have a reverse gearbox fitted the car has never needed one to pass an mot so why does it need one fitted to compete ?? Flying Carrot Steve Posted September 10 Posted September 10 It's most likely a safety issue Ash. Quicker to reverse than to have to unbelt, get out, run to one end and push. Under certain circumstances I'd imagine a reverse box adds safety, at least in their rules, regs and minds for exiting that set of circumstances more speedily. Quote

I did think that steve but i was hoping somebody that helps run the 7s could give me the factual reason why its needed . Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Simple really, it's a Motorsport UK regulation as below :- NCR CHAPTER 14.4.10 10. Transmission 10.1. For Road Cars and Standard Cars the reverse gear must always remain operable. NCR is short for National Competition Rules, I've started a new topic on these for information. As a reverse is required for IVA, then it's only Modified cars which are not required to run one. Quote
harrypotter Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Stick a reverse lever in the tunnel and don't tell anyone its not connected! Only joking obviously, cos that would be against the rules..... 1 Quote

Nick just a quick question As you have mentioned the iva requirements being used as the bench mark do cars in road going need to run things like the extra fuel tank protection bar that was needed to pass the iva test ? Hi Ash, No, it more a high level consideration of the regs, than getting into that much detail on individual car makes / models. Although obviously a protection bar is a good idea, but often during to weight consideration that's left off. Quote
