Richard Slack Posted Monday at 17:07 Posted Monday at 17:07 Hi all, I'm looking for a new project, and I'm planning on building a race car. As such I'm looking for a chassis / rolling chassis / old race car / unfinished project / car in need of some work etc. As you can tell I'm pretty open to any options!!! Given it's going to be a race car it doesn't need a V5 etc... Please message me if you have something that could work. Cheers Richard 1
Kingster Posted Monday at 19:14 Posted Monday at 19:14 @Nick Algar - Competition Secretary you still got that spare one in the garage?
NotMcGoohan Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Hi Richard, Was offered a 'barn find' SE1 a few days ago. Kit is 2009, registered in 2012 and has 80'odd miles on it. Was substantially stripped in same year following an excursion through a hedge! Has 2.0 Pinto and 5 spd box. One piece rear tub complete with both clamshell and cycle front wings. All component parts seem to be present. Nose, bonnet, sides and wings all have degrees of damage. Located on Worcs/Salop border. Owner asking £3200 (I'm sure there is wiggle room) Has V5. I've turned it down as my current (see Green Westie topic) 'The Prisoner' build is yet to be fully finished. Shakedown at Castle Combe revealed suspension issues!
Richard Slack Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago Hi all, Thank you for your replies. @NotMcGoohan Do you know if the chassis has any damage? Cheers Richard
NotMcGoohan Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Hi Richard, I did examine as much of the chassis as possible. There are areas of grey primer which may cover repairs. As the entire project was (is) stacked on a trailer, having been "evicted" from the barn where it resided for 13 years, I was not able to measure diagonals or twist. The suspension pick-up points and removed wishbones seem to be OK but again, I was unable to make a thorough check. There are two complete sets of wheels and tyres, a set of Team Dynamic Motorsports allys with Toyos and a set of Compomotive allys with Avon Turbospeeds... none of which appear to be damaged. For anyone (not me) competent with GRP repairs, the body panels seem repairable. The extent and location of the visible damage not giving much of a clue regarding the accident. If I had taken the project for myself I would have completed the tear down to a bare chassis and blast cleaned it to reveal any issues. With the right fixtures trueing the chassis (if required) would not be too difficult. (I had to completely cut, shut and gusset a Dutton Phaeton many years ago as nothing was square - and that was from the factory!) It would have also allowed me to mod the chassis to independent rear and build it with an MX5 NC 2 litre Duratec and 6spd drive train transplant. With modest tuning that would deliver 230+ bhp - free from MOT test restrictions as the V5 is a Q plate. Hope that helps? Geoff, aka NotMcGoohan
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Those photos look like '90's Kit type bodywork, not 2000's onwards ZK bodywork, not necessarily a problem other than not having been made for 25+ years, but does make me wonder how much else may be much older than you may think. Then again, the price isn't outrageous either for a V5'd car. But deffo one for very close inspection of what you're getting.
