scott beeland Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Looking to but a mini dv camcorder and like the look of these two. For about £100 difference it seems the 95 has 8 mb media card. Also has dv and analogue in/ out whereas the 25 only has dv out. Other than that the specs are about the same Which would be most suited for in car recording? Quote
scruffythefirst Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Which 2? I would have thought you'd want DV in for a bullet cam so you don't risk putting a stone through the camera itself. Or are bullet cams analogue? Quote
scott beeland Posted April 27, 2004 Author Posted April 27, 2004 Which 2? The ones it says in the post title JVC GRDX 25 and GRDX95 Quote
scruffythefirst Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Ahh, didn't read that. got any links to specs pages for the lazy Quote
Persil Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 If u want to use a bullet cam then u need analogue in . After much searching about i found the JVC GR-D70 has everything you need at £329 ish . Regards Persil Quote
scott beeland Posted April 27, 2004 Author Posted April 27, 2004 Yep the grd 70 looks ok 'cept it doesn't have flash facility for digital still pictures and it's a bit more bulky. Best price Kelkoo £319. Best price for grdx 95 is £566. That's a lot of difference for the occasional still photo Quote
Persil Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Also i dont think i have ever seen a good photo from a dv camcorder.. Better to buy the GR-D70 and with cash you saved buy a bullet cam and mounting or a Canon A70 for still shots Persil Quote
Major Stare Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 I have a JVC GR-DVP7E It has everything you possibly need and is an excellent piece of kit, play back quality is fantastic I read a few magazines before making my choice and the JVC came out very highly. Quote
adhawkins Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Second what Persil says, don't buy a camcorder based on still photos, there's little or no point. DV in is needed if you want to edit on a PC, then dump back to the camcorder. If you don't expect to be doing that, then you don't really need it. Analogue in is a must for a bullet cam as has been said. Andy Quote
Mike dB Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Scott, most people go for the Canon MV700i for £339 from askdirect. I will call round tomorrow & tell yer whats you need If you've still got yer bootbox that is Quote
ChrisG Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Im half looking at getting a DV camera for the same reasons. Looking at the spec of the MV700i it doesnt seem to have an audio input which is useful to enable you to use an external mic when recording in-car. It also doesnt have a DV out according to Pixmania (although has DV in oddly), so might be worth sourcing one of the older MV600i's instead? Chris Quote

Chris Depnds if you intend using a bullet camera or not, if you do you can't use the audio in socket anyway..... If you don't & you strap the camera to the roll bar & the mic in the bootbox then you're sorted! Quote
ChrisG Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 How come you cant use the mic if you've got a bullet camera then? Ive read about people using the RFConcepts camera/mic kits with MV500i / MV600i etc, and never heard that you cant use the mic when using the bullet cam. Also do you know what the idea of having DV in but not out is, doesnt that mean you cant output it to a firewire card (or is it a typo, should be DV out only)? cheers Chris Quote

At least that's what happens with my Soncy PC8, you can get audio with a bullet camera but you have to use their microphone that comes with it which distorts at just the site of a caterfield I went down the purchasing a motorcyle battery & pre-amp from Maplin route as well as a stereo microphone Perhaps you can do it with the mv600i but don't see why my Sony should be any different, tbh. As for the dv in & not out I imagine it is a typo or merely just not listed as it is down on the askdircect site as well as audio in (A/V in) Quote
ChrisG Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Just had a look on the Canon Uk site here where you can compare one to the other, and it too says the MV700i has no audio (microphone) input. It doesnt really clear up the DV thing cos it just says DV: Yes (the 600i says in/out ). You might be right about the analogue input expecting the mic feed though, will have to investigate on RF Concepts. cheers Chris Quote
