Stuart Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Afternoon all. I'm getting a DA polisher for my birthday this week - what polishing compound should I use on the Westy please? It's already shiny but there's lots of swirls and few light scratches I'd like to get rid of. Someone recommended Farecla G3 but there's lots of different versions of that. Any info/tips for a novice would be most welcome. Thanks Quote
Stuart Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 I'm astounded this got no replies. I thought the club would have loads of expert detailers. Or have I asked a stupid question? Quote
Jason_B Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I have used Farecla G3 (yellow bottle) on cars for year with no problems. Haven’t used it on my westy before but wouldn’t have any issues in using it. Quote
Jason_B Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I also use water with it, less likely to burn the paint. It will get messy, well for me it does lol Quote
Stuart Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 @Jason_B thanks but which compound for polishing? From what I can see they're all yellow bottles and there seems to be lots of different grades Quote
Jason_B Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I’ll have to check what I have a work tomorrow but I believe G3 is regular grade. 1 Quote
Stuart Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 @Jason_B there's definitely a whole range all called G3 🙄 Quote
SootySport Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago The usual way to go about it is start with a mild cutting polish first (Mer or T cut comes to mind). It that doesn't work try a G3 cutting compound. No need to buy any modern fancy and expensive products, the old methods work just as good. Need the DA sander moving and don't press hard is the way to remove swirls, also clean of the compounds regularly with a clean damp micro fibre cloth. Take your time for best results. 1 Quote
