I have always like the idea of doing Sprints and Hillclimbs as you are the only car on track. I understand I could enter my Westfield in the road going class but wondered what sort of cage would be required if any other than the standard Westfield roll hoop and would I need to fit 4 point harnesses rather then the 3 points it currently has. Although a standard road car with a roof doesn't require either I seem to remember reading something about open top kit cars but not sure where. Is this a thing or did I imagine it ? Quote

Hi Steve, It should be quite straightforward, you do not need a roll cage in roadgoing class, a braced Roll Hoop is required from a safety point of view. Similarly you could compete with a 3 point harness, but a 4 point is generally considered safer and also allows better control of the car as you are firmly held in your seat. Steve G. Posted 10 hours ago Author Posted 10 hours ago Hi Nick, thank for explaining. The bar I have has got a diagonal bar fitted but I don't know what sort of spec it is. The belts I have look like a 4 point harness but have a single top fixing. The chassis I have was made like this so I would have to fit extra mounts to fi a proper 4 point harness. If I fitted a better cage, say a current caged one would the car still be classed as a road car ? Quote

I wasn't sure a Westfield actually classed as a standard road car but they fit in the Road Cars - Specialist Production Cars category. Thanks for the link to the regs I will have a read. A friend sent a link saying there were some spaces available at Gurston Driving school and it got me thinking. Quote

Just read the bit about a cage can be fitted as long as it doesn't pick up suspension mounting points. Perhaps I need to keep a look out for a better roll hoop. Thanks. Quote
