LiamB Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Currently looking at a local car , can any one confirm what body / kit this is ? Looks like and SE rear end and also has SE on the bulkhead. Although chassie and bonnet are the newer type. Quote
Kingster Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Looks like an SE with Kit bodywork and an FW bonnet grafted on (note mismatched swage lines) Chassis will not be newer type unless you know different? EDIT - odd… the swage lines on the scuttle look off on one photo but ok on another? Might just be the light? But usually if it has a big SE moulded into the scuttle then it won’t line up with the FW nose (happy to be corrected!) Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 13 Posted March 13 It a mix of two, possibly three body styles. FW nose and bonnet, a Kit scuttle, possibly, with a ZK contour dash, and Kit tub. The front arches are a somewhat generic Seven design that I don’t specifically recognise. Body style and chassis type are two different things though, with the exception of the factory built Sport Turbo, pretty much all chassis of all ages, despite their detail differences, will accept all body designs, Kit, ZK and FW. (Note though that a standard/narrow chassis needs narrow bodywork, normally, while a wide chassis needs wide bodywork. But be aware, in the Kit world, there are no absolutes, and owners have made odd combinations work, by modifying the parts to suit). 1 Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 13 Posted March 13 See my edit! I realised I’d not mentioned the narrow/wide differences, I do know of at least one car though where narrow bodywork was made to fit wide. And bear in mind it has modified front tub sides, with the flared sides fitted, it could be a narrow tub, made to look wider at the front to match the FW nose/bonnet. This is one of those cars that really, really hard to evaluate from photos. I note it also shows as registered in 2018. So could be an old chassis, never registered from the 90’s or early 2000’s, with similar era tub and scuttle, or a relatively new chassis, with older bodywork made to fit… Its an early style roll bar though, so my guess would be an older kit, never registered in the day, that’s only been finished and IVA’d in 2018. Rednop1 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Looks like a wide to me with kit bodywork on the rear with a fw nose on the front Quote
LiamB Posted March 13 Author Posted March 13 Looks like a final edition chassis to me but I could be wrong. Quote
Rednop1 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Final edition is that a thing now ? Chassis look like a wide with a type 9 tunnel Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 13 Posted March 13 i would have said like it looked more like an earlier chassis, possibly with some mods, how early is hard to tell. It does have a pendulum style pedal box which dates it, it also seems to have welded in fittings for the original Ford radiator, which was more of a nineties to very early 2000's thing; but the rad mounts (upper) might just have been welded in by the builder). It's hard to tell just from what I've seen in the photos. By the way, please don't take any of this as being negative towards the car, it's not. But it's going to be one of those that all comes down to giving it a good physical inspection and going off the build quality etc. and taking it on it's individual merit. Quote

LiamB Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 Any idea on what I should be looking to pay given the mismatch Quote
Captain Colonial Posted March 14 Posted March 14 1 hour ago, LiamB said: Any idea on what I should be looking to pay given the mismatch An almost impossible question to answer. If it was me, I’d give it a miss completely and keep looking to find something a lot less Frankenstein. That one may well cause you issues you can’t solve further down the line. One thing alone would make me keep looking and it’s this: I have no idea what’s going on here with three hose clamps, but it’s not a good indicator is to the condition of the rest of the car IMHO. 1 Quote
LoneWolf Posted March 14 Posted March 14 2 hours ago, LiamB said: Any idea on what I should be looking to pay given the mismatch I wouldn't bother, it'll be borderline impossible to sell when time comes. It's already pretty difficult to price kitcars, stuff like that which has been put together in such hacky way keep buyers away. And it's guaranteed to give you problems even just using it. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Aye, difficult to price up as the Frankenstein nature of the build will put many off - it's a hard car to buy and own, unless you know the marque and Sevens/kits pretty well, as you'll never be able to assume any given part from a more factory style build, (whether actual factory or amateur build), will be the same and fit. So not a good first kit/first Westfield for someone, which immediately limits the market. The parts visible in the pictures are all capable, if used well on a good build, of making a great little car. BUT, it's also going to be quite a dated car, now, even by the standards of Westfield kits supplied in the last twenty years; that's not necessarily a problem, just something to be aware of - the CVH engine for instance, not a bad engine in its day - the Captain and many others still run them. It's not a particularly popular engine though, and is old enough to put you into the more specialist suppliers realm for some spare parts. Again, not a big problem of some, but could be an issue for others. Quote
