Greg Blair Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Unfortunately my westfield ownership is over 😪 due to a farmer leaving a road covered in mud, last year... Please make sure that you have your westfield insured for an agreed value not what you paid for it! The body work and nose cone was going to cost £2700 🤦♂️ and westfield wouldn't consider a discount. The cost of the body work will write the car off. I was very lucky to have walked away from the accident and siltech are looking at rebuidling my car. £400 ono for the boot lid and £150 for the RAC roll bar. Collection from LE12 2
jaykay42 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Hi! That is very sad to hear - half that you are okay though. I did a quick Google search and it wasn't immediately clear to me what the pitfalls are when simple insuring the Westie for what I paid for it. Feel free to tell me to contact my insurer to explain if it's too painful/annoying to discuss... Thank you and best wishes Jens
Greg Blair Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 You won't be able to repair it for what you paid for it. Westfield are charging too much for parts to make it viable to repair your car though the insurance company. It will be a write off. I bought mine for 11k had it insured for 12k and got 11.5k for it. I needed to insured for 15k I could have repaired it for around 12k, outside of the insurance. Probably cheaper with second hand parts, but having walked away from tha accident, I'm looking at a ginetta g40r with FIA cage/chassis. Its the first time I've had to make a claim though insurance and it was a nightmare. The insurance company couldn't repair my car, arrange covered transport for my car, or value the car correctly. You'll get less than what it insured for. Your car should be valued on the cost to repair it, not what you pay for it. Hopefully the next issue of the magazine will have a section on this. I'm totally gutted, but hopefully it will live on with siltech. Most insurance companies offer an agreed value. It won't cost you much more and hopefully you won't have to go though and insurance calim. But if you do, please make sure you have the money to repair your westy! 1 1
