Alec E Posted February 21 Posted February 21 My duratec coolant system is leaking in a few places. I think it’s a combination of failed rigid pipe work coating (it’s severely bubbled and rough) plus old rubber pipes. Ideally, I’d replace the lot with a new cooling module from Westfield but they don’t stock them. I thought a plan might be to ask if anyone had an unwanted tatty coolant system (excluding radiator & header tank) that they might be willing to part with so I could still use my car whilst I restore the metal pipes and source replacement hoses? Thanks for looking (any ideas on how best to remedy the issue also appreciated).
Euan Hoosearmy Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Don't re-plumb twice.... get the bits and do it once. I used Auto Silicone Hoses when I re-plumbed, they sell ally pipe as well. I've only got one bit of original rigid pipe left on my setup (Zetec) and that's the pipe that goes from behind the bottom of the radiator towards the water-pump inlet. Everything else is silicone with ally joiners where needed. 1
JTR Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I purchased a set of caterham R400 hoses from the attached. http://classicsiliconehoses.uk/our-products/ they use the standard duratec water outlet and so far fit very well. 1

Wow. They have quite the catalogue of hose sets. Any ideas on pricing/lead time for them - or is it POA? So it was this set (pictured) that you are using? I can see that the thermostat bypass hose would likely fit, but a lot of the other hose runs look significantly different to what I have. I presume that the set eliminates all the rigid aluminium pipes? Would you be able to get a few photos of how you are running the hose set on your car? Thanks.
JTR Posted February 24 Posted February 24 As far as I know it eliminates the solid sections. I am not running a heater so I guess my setup is quite simple. So far I have only fitted the top and bottom radiator hoses. The set cost me £330.
Alec E Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 Thanks for the useful photos. I can see from them that it works for your car but my setup is very different. My radiator has both the input & output on the left plus I have a heater. I’ll have to continue with my current plan of piecing together various off the shelf parts until it fits!
