Welcome Ralf.

thats not the normal format for a Westfield VIN number, have you read this from the riveted chassis plate or the stamping into the chassis tube? They may be different as it could have been re-stamped when it was imported into Germany.

It’s a long shot, but there will be a UK registration plate number on the tax disc, which is on the left side of the windscreen.  These were used to show vehicle tax status until they were discontinued in 2015.  If you can share that with us, we might find something for you.

The vin number is from the German registration paper. I haven´t found the number on the car yet. The tax sticker is very faded. let´s see if we can still see anything. But thank you very much in advance.

Hallo Ralf,

welcome!

I suspect your tyres are Toyo T1R. I strongly recommend you change them. They're not suited to our light weight toys.

Michelin PS3 or Toyo R888R are much better.

Ok, will look for Vin again und thank you for recommendation regarding the tyres. Will change before the car is back on the road.

@Ralf I think those tyres were discontinued c. 2012 so they might be pretty old too

I found out a few things. The chassis number is an early Westfield number. Westfield couldn't help because their records only go back to 1999. A Vin decoder found the number and it belongs to a Seight from 1991. The car must have come to Germany from Scotland and the engine is from a Rover P6.

Can the DVLA perhaps help?

You can certainly ask, although I wouldn’t get your hopes too high due to data protection etc. Even if you had the original number plate, DVLA wouldn’t give you the names of any previous owners.

I’ve looked in the club’s voluntary register and the only 1991 SEight was green & yellow.  There’s a 1992 in red.

Wow - that’s very early. Must be one of the first handful, if it’s a genuine 1991 SEiGHT. (Not just a 1991 chassis which had a V8 plonked in later.)

Mine was first registered in 1993 and is an early one, built for the then marketing director of Westfield. I’ll check my chassis number just for the fun of comparison.

One of the more “interesting” periods of the club’s history was illustrated in Westfield World magazine Feb/March 1992 where a member wrote up his detailed experience of changing the Pinto engine in his SEi to a Rover V8.  It alarmed the factory so much that a meeting with the club was convened and a statement made in the April/May issue telling members not to do it in no uncertain terms.  However, it did inspire the factory to do one them themselves.  (Both issues available in the Downloads section above.)
