Blocking Emails

Recommended Posts

Every day I get unwanted emails from 4 or 5 websites.

Is there any way I can block them?

What email app / program are you using?

Are there unsubscribe links at the bottom of the mails? Often these are in very small print as they don't really want you clicking on them but have to put them there.

Yep, every mail should have an unsubscribe option at the bottom somewhere. Might not be obvious but legally it must be there I believe.

but, that doesn't mean they honor it

I think some email apps have a feature to block specific sites

Create a rule in the email app that sends it straight to the bin. And gmail (for example) also has a “report spam” button that works well.

TBH I've never known a legitimate vendor who didn't honour an unsubscribe request.

Problem is that spambots use the unsubscribe link to verify that they have hit an active email address, resulting in more spam.

Some email providers have an option to block specific email addresses and/or domains.  Don't think Gmail does but Yahoo definitely does - and it works.
