eggontoast Posted January 7 Posted January 7 If carrying a bit of coolant hose to potentially sub in if there a split, do folk carry a length just big enough to fit some connectors to with those connectors installed, such as thaylt the split piece can be cut in two and the bridging piece put in easily? I may or may not have explained this very well! 1 Quote
DIY-Si Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Whilst i get what you mean, if the car is checked over regularly, a perishing hose will be spotted and replaced. I can't recall the last time I had a hose actually split. To answer the question more directly, you would need some connectors to allow the spilt section to be bridged. A bandage type wrap might be universally usable, should you have hoses of different sizes across the engine bay. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Never seen a (silicon) hose on a Westfield split as yet. But I do carry some silicon self-amalgamating tape that I could use to repair one if it got damaged etc. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I do habitually carry a slightly larger tool kit/spares selection than I would if just doing local runs, but only because of doing the two week long Euro trips, and just leaving the kit in the car. Whilst I do obviously have recovery and Euro recovery, it would be a crying shame to lose the car for the whole trip if something minor and fixable happened right at the start. Quote
eggontoast Posted January 8 Posted January 8 @RickRack, I mean using a pair of these on a short length of hose, to bridge across a split I did have a hose split (more like wear through) last summer. A spare like this would have helped. Well if the engine wasn't actually ruined as well 😁 1 1 Quote

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 8 Posted January 8 After previous experiences in tunnels, I like to carry a spare exhaust with me when touring... 4 Quote

Been off road since the summer solstice, still in progress. Oil filter housing was swapped to the replacement engine last night. Sump, ITBs, water dist block, belt and pulleys plus flywheel and clutch still to go before I can try connecting the gearbox to it... 2 Quote

You've never been on a North East Aerosceener's Seven Heaven Tour then 😆 The more sevens that join in the fun, the more chance of a breakdown - but in fairness the hose that we keep stopping to fix on a bi-annual basis is one that is attached to a Cossie turbo'd Dax Rush 4x4. 1 2 Quote
