My car is due it’s first MOT in October but I haven’t had a reminder. Can i book an MOT without the reminder?

You can actually book and take an mot any time you like even if you have 11 months still on your old one. No point of course but AFAIK there is no law or rule that says you can't.  The main time I see people doing this is as part of a car sale arrangement, ie will be supplied with a full 12 month mot. Damned good idea in fact.

You only get a reminder if either your garage lets you know or you sign up for the DVLA reminder service here - MOT reminder

I thought it was only bookable one month before due date?

If you want to preserve the date of the MOT and get the full year’s worth, then yes I think you can only book up to one month in advance, otherwise you’ll set a new due date and eat into the year period. But as @Flying Carrot Steve says, you can book an MOT at any time and it will be valid for a year
