cast iron Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 3 Slappers on Sunday. My first event with the speed series, the bloke gave me hell Westy roll bar dosen't conform to MSA, but I'm in road car I pleaded, dont care he said if its fitted it must be MSA. Eventually I won that one. Then he picked on my throttle return springs claiming they wern't fitted properly, after 3 minutes and offering to strip the linkage I won that one. Then as I put the bonnet back on and he wanted to stop me because the front edge of #1 filter stuck outside the cut out, and he reckend that the new regs didnt allow a silhoute change. Eventually I passed but what a ruddy chore. Every scruitineer I have met has always been helpfull but that bloke was a pain in the A*** Quote
Kev Bamber Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 That will be the A*** with the beard, don't take it personally, you will see him again at Ty Croes, we think it's a power trip thing. Quote
Terry Everall Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Thank god I avoided him. My checks took all of 2 mins ! I thought we had dealt with the silhouette issue ( most of us have air filters sticking out) He is just a prat As for your roll bar I would change it if you are going to do more events including track days as it is mainly cosmetic! Mark Stanton Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 That bearded is indeed Chris Mansley You won't find a more unhelpful git of an who hates Westfields anywhere else He was sitting on table within ear shot of myself in the cafe and was doing nothing else but slag off Westfields to his fellow scruters He is regularly at 3 Slappers and as Kev says will be at Ty Croes in Spetember If you can avoid the git - if you are unfortunate to come across him again - smile, say thank you and walk away He does it simply to create argument and antagonise folks Similarly if anyone has bad or negative experience of him please draft a letter and send it to me - I will collate as many as possible and present them to the MSA to have this mans attitude "re-addressed" He is well known for his bad manners Quote
westy Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 While on the subject, although the scrutineers were fine and helpful to deal with at north weald both times I was there, they both commented on the 2-gallon fuel tank I run which is accessed from a hole in the boot cover. The first time I was there he wasn’t happy that the fuel filler cap sat 10mm proud of the boot box cover. I explained it was because of the new bodywork supplied by Westfield being different to the old stuff. He said for the day to cover the hole and and fuel cap in duck tape and that I could run (since fixed by raising boot box cover up). He then went on to complain about having the tank in that position saying that there is little bracing for a rear impact and the fuel would go everywhere, fair enough I thought but I didn’t want to argue with him so avoided the point that every Westfield has zero bracing for rear impacts on the fuel tank other than a bit of grp and mud. 2nd time there and a different scrutineer and this one also complained about using that fuel tank and the lack of bracing behind it. So with mr difficult scruitneer at Anglesey would he have enough to disallow me from competing? Also can I hit him if he does? Quote
Guest Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Just a quick one, My car was placed before the bearded chap in question at 3 slappers on Sunday. I have to say - he was polite and passed my car with the minimum of fuss - 2 minutes tops. He only passed comment on an exposed positive battery terminal - but was perfectly happy when I pointed out that the rubber boot has simply slipped up the cable a bit. He seemed fine by me - but I have come across right jobs worths before. I agree with the recommendation to replace the standard roll bar. If (heaven forbid) you do roll your car - the standard roll bar will be less than useless. Don't let this experience put you off the Sprint Series - it is not always like that. Well done to Reverend Terrence by the way. Keep a watch in your mirrors at Aintree! Quote
DickieB Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 There's an easy answer. Come racing. Scruitineering is far less stringent! No, I couldn't believe it either! Quote
Mark Stanton Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Westy - Scruters are becoming "sensitive" to fuel filler caps "projecting" - in the evnt of a crumple they view it as being able to be broken off - sink it down below boot box cover and create a removable lid Many have done it Scruters won't wanna peer into the rear of your car around petrol tank if you make it look as if its "nailed" down and inaccessible would he have enough to disallow me from competing? Scruters can NOT stop anyone from competing They can forward comment to the Clerk of The Course only the CoC can stop anyone competing - it is his decision based upon advice from others and most CoC who know of the Bearded know exactly what he is Also can I hit him if he does? Not if I get to him first Quote
