Temporary Insurance

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need temp insurance for a test drive but the normal comparison sites don’t cover Westfield’s.

Howden’s (A-plan) don’t do temp

cover.

Adrian Flux Stung me for £69 last time which I’m keen to avoid again!

Any recommendations?

Thanks, James

Does your tin top insurance cover it, or can you add the Westfield to it for a day?

It's probably no good for the short term unless you already use them but Aidrian Flux do a £25 add on to their comprehensive insurance that lets you drive other people's cars fully comp with that person's permission.

Can’t you ask who owns the car to put you on there insurance as a named driver and pay them the fee! Just thinking outside the box

That may sound high compared to the cost of annual insurance but actually does seem quite reasonable to me, even when looking at the cost of temporary cover for an ordinary car.

An inexperienced driver trying a rear wheel drive performance car for the first time is going to be a much higher risk to them compared to test drive in a Ford fiesta.

if buying privately then I’ve always accepted that a passenger ride is probably the best I can expect together with a sit in the drivers seat trying the gears and pedals whist stationary.

As as seller I would be very reluctant to do this.

if the potential buyer does have an accident resulting in a claim then I’d be looking at increased premiums on all my cars for the next few years.

Have you tried Briefly?

No, I’ll give them a go, thanks!

Good luck. I can't believe it's so hard to find cover, crazy isn't it! It may even be worth trying to find a good old fashioned high street shop insurer like we used in the good old days before everything was online, they always seemed to come up trumps for me.

If you are serious about  buying one soon take a policy out on the car, it's surprisingly cheap (normally) if that cars not the one swap insurance onto next one could be cheapest way to do it

That’s not a terrible idea.

I’ve done this before. I even thought I could cancel the policy in the cooling off period if the car I was test driving want for me…
