Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 The next breakfast meeting is on the 18th August. This month, we'll go somewhere different, then on for a run to the coast. The pub is The Riverside, on Shipton road, A19, York, YO30 1XJ. We'll meet there at 10:30 for breakfast, then head to the coast via Helmsley, Pickering and on to Scarborough, where I've somewhere in mind for a coffee ☕️ I'll be at The Buffers, Rakehill Road, Scholes, LS15 4AL at 10am if anyone wants to join me. Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO Posted August 18, 2024 Author Posted August 18, 2024 Quite an eventful outing today. 4 of us met up at the Buffers and left dead on time to meet up with the others at the Riverside. Deciding to take the direct route along the A64 instead of the more scenic one, all was well until we hit the duel carriage way and my temperature gauge was heading towards 100°. Carrying on and it was soon off the scale so I thought I'd better stop and have a look. Taking the bonnet off, I could see there was no radiator cap on. I'd checked the levels before leaving home and forgotten to replace it. Luckily it had fallen onto the plug leads and stopped there. Topping up with a litre of water I had got us under way for around 10 miles, then I had to stop again. More water added from the washer bottle and we were off again arriving at the Riverside about 20 minutes late. Next problem, the pub was shut. A quick Google found an open pub 5 minutes away. All starving by now so Full English all round. After a fill up of food and, more importantly, water, we set off for Helmsley. Nice roads with no traffic, I'd set my satnav for our destination in Scarborough, actively ignoring it until I turned right towards Malton instead of left to Helmsley. Not realising at first, I just carried on. Hitting Malton, we managed to get split up in traffic and traffic lights and 8 cars became 4, with the other 4 splitting up into pairs. The 4, me, @Breakable?, @Nicholas Rycroft, @Dylan managed to spin round and join up with @Jill sutcliffe and @MGG along the A64 that I was trying to avoid! So we carried on to our final destination of "Olivers on the Mount" which surprisingly is a cafe on Olivers Mount in with spectacular views of Scarborough. We had to go the long way round as a hill climb was taking place, but as we arrived in the car park @Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator and @Gareth D (GAZ 4885) got there at the same time. @ColinH made it in time for tea and cakes. Heading home is easier, we all know where we live, or should do, so we took the scenic route from Bridlington to Stamford Bridge and the A64 again. Thanks to all who came and sorry for the delays and changing routes. 8 Quote
