cashy Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 Hi all, In the process of trying to register my westfield. Had a wasted trip yesterday to Nottingham dvla. The member of staff beyhind the desk didnt have a clue what she was doing to be honest. I have to have the inspector look at the car before they can go any further. This means i will have to trailer the car there as i believe you cant drive it on the road un registered!!! What does the inspector look for? Car is a megablade Quote
neilwillis Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 The inspection is to confirm all the serial numbers are as shown on the documentation. You can drive to and from the inspection providing you can prove you have an appointment - in other words, get it in writing, and have it with you when you go to the inspection. As long as your car is road legal in every other respect, you will not be breaking the law. Still a pain in the ass, when you're itching to get it registered I know! Quote
pete g Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 its was 12 years ago ,but back then they came to you.i my case within 1 week of contacting them.they want to check chassis numbers etc. regards pete Quote
JonnyBoy Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 thought that was only if you are trying for an age related/ new licence plate number. If Q you dont need an inspection... or at least I didnt in 2000 Quote
neilwillis Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 Not true at all. The inspection is to confirm the documentation serial numbers match the car's, and is normally, but not always, carried out regardless of whether the car is to be on Q or new plates. Quote
cashy Posted April 3, 2004 Author Posted April 3, 2004 Ok, so basically he will just check the engine and chassis numbers, what else will he be looking for? Quote
timd Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Nothing. That's the trouble with it IMO. Chassis and engine numbers will have already been checked by your SVA tester and, depending on how pedantic your local DVLA are, an MOT tester. Mine had been checked by both the day prior to me having the same conversation with the DVLA, and after a brief "argument with raised voices" Norwich DVLA decided that it wasn't necessary to do a visual inspection after all and gave me the reg stuff. JonnyBoy Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 The inspection is to confirm the documentation serial numbers match the car's what a waste of time.. SVA checks the engine for its age.. and the chassis is new so how can it not match??.. how does this help any? Quote
timd Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 It gets the DVLA jobsworth out of the office for 5mins - that's about it AFAICS. Quote
cashy Posted April 3, 2004 Author Posted April 3, 2004 thought so........... will it matter if the car looks like it has been on the road or should it be completely shiny.......its been used to drive to sva and back Quote
markg Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 its a government agency you could probably tell them that its a cobra if they ask any questions, tell them you are a romanian builder Quote
Crash Override Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 It seems that different DVLA offices have different views on checking numbers as I have just registered my Megabird on the 2/3/04 at Worcester and didn't have numbers checked, all new parts bar 2000 engine and walked away with nice new 04 number within 10 minutes Mind you I turned up late afternoon when they were getting ready to go home so I was rushed through quickly Quote
cashy Posted April 5, 2004 Author Posted April 5, 2004 Went to DVLA nottingham again today, car got soaked as it p******** down all the way there. Waited 30 mins in que again only to be told, "sorry both our inspectors are off today" I couldnt believe it, one was ill one was on hols, why did the muppet on Friday tell me i could just pop in on Monday and an inspector will be available.... I was obviously not to impressed, i wondered why theres signs on the wall stating they prosecute people who attack dvla staff!!!! I rang DVLA main office and complained, explained my dilema and they said i may be able to go to Northampton dvla to get inspected, fair play to the guy at dvla swansea, he rang me back a few times and then DVLA Northampton rang and said it would be ok to pop down. Set off down the M1, torrential rain so car was now soaked and filthy, i get to j19 of the m1 and theres a call, dvla northmapton cant do inspection as the girl isnt confident enought to do a westfield as she didnt realise it was a kit built car.......... CAn you believe this? Quote
