Westie remote and type 9 box

I have a remote on a type 9 box but can't get it to stay in 5th.  It just pops out!

Has anyone else had this?  Wondering what the problem is before I strip out the engine and box.

Could anyone lend me a remote so I can check mines not overly worn or faulty just for a day or so?

cheers

Does the remote feel sloppy at all?  I had a problem with mine and it turned out one of the sleeves had come out, couldnt get 1st or 2nd gears.

What do you mean by one of the sleeves?  Do you mean the black plastic bush?

I have filed the box end and added a bush just to stop any slack.

By the way also dunno if it was OK before I fitted box to car as it was given to me as a recon.

I have been wondering if the narrow plate (right side of box - holds fifth apparantly) that has a fork on the inside of it obviously holds something (a collar?) but this something can be seen moving forwards and backwards when selecting fifth (with the plate off obviously.

Maybe this collar thing should hold its position via the fork but its corroded on the shaft that goes through it hence moving forwards and backwards when selecting 5th?

Was thinking if this is the case trying to free it up under force (a screwdriver?!;) and if I can adding some molyslip for future protection.

Does this sound a bit brutal
