mark.anson Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 About to start fitting the suspension. I notice that the upper front wishbones are of unequal length. Does the longer "arm" of the wishbone fit nearest the front or back of the car. Also the manual says to fit plain washers between the bushes and chassis brackets. Ive offered up the wishbones to the chassis and thay dont seem to be a good fit, and i may struggle to fit the washers. Is this normal or is it the usual Westfield presision engineering. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 Yes you do need to fit washers - and its a tight fit and may need "persuading" to put them in place Longer arm to the front (I think) Precision Quote
TAFFYY Posted April 1, 2004 Posted April 1, 2004 Hi Yes as Mark said longer arm to the front and you MUST use the washers cheers Tom Quote
timd Posted April 1, 2004 Posted April 1, 2004 Simplest way I found to "make room" for the washers or whatever in the wishbone brackets was to use the largest adjustable spanner I could find. Tighten it on the brackets and "tweak" the sides out a smidge until it all fits. The important bit is to make sure the jaws of the spanner go well past the hole through the bracket, otherwise the sides will just bend at the hole, not at the base where you want it. HTH.. Quote
geelhoed Posted April 1, 2004 Posted April 1, 2004 Does the longer "arm" of the wishbone fit nearest the front or back of the car. Also the manual says My manual makes a pont of checking that the front wish bones are offset to the rear. This was after I had fitted them however. My bet is that it's in yours too. Quote
Mike H Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 Yes you do need to fit washers - and its a tight fit and may need "persuading" to put them in place Hold on a minute, I don't think there are any washers specified to go between the wishbone and bracket (ie on the inside) in my manual! I don't think I've seen many on other cars either. Washers on the outside, yes of course, but I thought the bracket just clamped the ends of the metallistic bush and that was it.
