Towing eyes

Hi,

I have booked a track day, but on the website it says all cars must be fitted with front and rear towing eyes or towing fixtures. Have any of you fitted towing eyes, and if so where?

Many thanks

I've fitted one to the front. There is a box section of the chassis just back from the nose cone. I made a couple of identical steel plates up and effectively clamped them over the box section with a couple of m10 bolts.

I've used a TRS Tow strap to connect to this. Works a treat when needed. Thankfully never had to use it.

I didn't want to drill or weld anything on the box section for fear of weakening or twisting it.

I did something similar but picked up the two existing M6 bolts that hold the nose cone bolt plate, and welded up a toeing eye.

It is best to have something fitted just in case..most places are good but I have had a toe truck driver who wanted to pull on a wishbone....

If time is against you you could fix a rope to the same frame and cable tie it in place so if needed cable tie will break and allow rope to extend...

I cant find photo of bracket but attached shows fixing points, the bracket is the stainless 6mm bar below nose cone bracket.

I do track days and am yet to fit towing eyes.
As others have said, it’s advisable to do it just in case BUT also just to say in my experience it’s something that is not enforced at all.

I don't bother, just stick some "tow" stickers on your roll bar, they can use that if needs be.

You can see the stickers on my MSA bar (white at the fromt, yellow on the rear).

You can use the front wishbones if you get a brother towing strap. About £16 on eBay

It can also be used on a full cage if you have one of course

Never had a towing eye in 20 years of trackdays.  The one time I did need a tow, we used a soft strap around the front wishbone. Because of the low weight of the car it does no damage.
Also if you have a cage, a soft strap round that is sufficient for a tow.

This solution of marking the towing points on roll hoop / cage is accepted in a lot of Motorsport disciplines and like others never had a problem at track days.
