LiamB Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Hi All, i have recently purchased my first Westfield after previously owning a Robin Hood. I believe it’s a pre lit, it has a few teething problems but hopefully won’t take much to get sorted. Are there any known issues with the pre lits? And does anyone recognise the car as it has some WSCC paperwork. 9 Quote
Rob Hunter - Club Secretary Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Welcome from South Derbyshire! Lovely looking car. No real issues to report on the pre-lit cars, as they're all well over 30 years old most problems will have been sorted or upgraded over the years. Is it running a crossflow, type E 4 speed and english axle? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Welcome! What a pretty looking car. There are no particular generic “pre-lit faults”, Depending on the spec, there are one or two issues that can come up, but most are really minor. Crossflows, for instance can be a bit of a devil to get the exhaust manifold to seal, and stay sealed to the head, for instance, but that’s an engine/manifold specific thing, that can hit any age of car. In that instance, Burtons do some gaskets that appear best of the bunch. Really though, I’d just treat as any classic car. Depending what you know of it’s history, consider working through to change the “rubber” type parts; hoses, (fuel water and brake), bushes etc, if they’ve not been done in years, as they do dry out and fail eventually. If it’s on twin carbs, Webber’s or Delortos etc, they may need a rebuild if never done, and so on. Just take your time, work through and enjoy the car. 2 Quote
SteveB21 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Welcome - not my old car, but very similar! In addition to Dave's suggestions, well worth changing all the fluids - engine, gearbox & diff, brake fluid plus a coolant change with flush. I've also found a new set of matched HT leads can work wonders on an old car. Enjoy! 1 Quote
Mike Wood Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Lovely looking car that looks it might vpbd as built. That is a keep and enjoy vehicle after any servicing/gentle recommissioning it might need. What engine does it have please? Does it have a Ford Crossflow with twin sidedraft twin choke Webers or a MG Midget A Series or a Ford Pinto perhaps? Any more pics including under bonnet? Where did you find it? I’d love to find an early Westfield. Cheers Mike 2 Quote
LiamB Posted July 3, 2024 Author Posted July 3, 2024 It’s a 1600 crossflow 711M on twin 40s , 4 speed Type E box and English axle. Bought off of Facebook , the plan is to go through it and tidy it up then try to move to something newer with a Zetec. 2 Quote
Mike Wood Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Thanks Liam, nice spec. Do please advertise it on here when it is time to move it on. Cheers Mike Quote
Steve G. Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Hi Liam. I've got an early-ish SE that's been off the road for 14 years. It's interesting reading the lost of faults as mine has had most. It's been driven for a week but is now waiting for a new radiator. I'm planning to fit new engine mounts today which will hopefully help my leaking exhaust manifold. These is a thread on here detailing what I have done so far titled 92 SE Resurrection which might be of interest. Quote
