R Tyas Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 Need some advice befor parting with a chunck of hard earn't I've priced up the VDO and the Smiths Classic gauges from W/Field (£251 for VDO) (£301 for Smiths) what are the pro and cons between these two i like the look of the smiths magnolia gauges, do vdo do a magnolia faced dial? any help would be appreciated Thanks Rob Quote
Blatman Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 It might be worth while checking out alternative suppliers, from the Smiths/Caerbont web site. Greengauges are also worth a look too. Both companies will be able to provide the appropriate senders for you installation too...... Quote
scruffythefirst Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 A significant proportion of the people on the Dax list have had problems with smiths / greengauges, especialy the senders. Scruffy Quote
Blatman Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 Problems with the senders themselves, or incorrectly ordering the wrong sender? That happens a lot...... Quote
scruffythefirst Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 Stuff like 5 oil pressure senders later, still having problems. Speedo's taking ages to get working, including several replacement magnets / senders / guages. Having had such a set of problems with the Greengauges instruments I'm in a bit of a quandary. I would like to get the dash looking right again, but to do that I have to at least buy another oil pressure sender and the one I've had so far is so poor, and so many other people have reported similar problems, that I'm reluctant to throw money down the drain like this. I may decide to get a couple more mechanical instruments to replace the important ones (water temperature, oil temperature) of the current set. From Tim's car pages He's on his third kit car built from scratch, including a westfield. Scruffy Quote
Blatman Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 Fair enough. First I've heard about it..... I'll keep an eye out for further negative feedback...... I don't recall any such feedback about Racetech Gauges either, but I'll stand to be corrected there as well! Quote
