I've got my car booked in for it's SVA re-test on April 15, and one of the things it failed on was exhaust noise.

I think it's now quieter but would like to be sure that it is definitely below the 'fail' level.

Anyone know a man with a dB meter within easy reach of Oxford?????

Depends what you regard as easy reach of Oxford. I have a "Realistic" brand (Tandy) dB meter and I am in near J2 of the M40. Any good? ???

Phone up your local Environmental Health department at the Council.  Depending on the particular personality that answers, they might be happy to drop by for a few minutes if it's near where they would otherwise be going.  

On the other hand, they might not, but if you don't ask, you don't get...

Thanks for the info - I'm taking the offer from t'man on clapham omnibus as he's not too far from me. No where near Clapham though - strange that...
