Richard (OldStager)
As an ex-biker I still follow this very closely, rather embarrassed to say that I have never been over there despite being possibly the closest member to the venue, its always next year with me.... Anyway for those bike fans either follow Manx radio online at https://www.manxradio.com/player/digital/ or watch the live streams at https://www.iomttraces.com/ The last link requires a login and fees paying in order to view, in the past I have done this but over the years the prices have risen a fair bit and I have decided to forego that service this year. Todays schedule is:- 10:00 - Roads Close 10:40 - Newcomers' Speed Control Lap 10:55 - Supersport/Supertwin (untimed) 11:35 - Superbike/Superstock (untimed) 12:20 - Sidecars (untimed) 13:45 - Supersport/Supertwin 14:30 - Superbike/Superstock 15:20 - Sidecars Full schedule found at https://www.iomttraces.com/racing/page/schedule/ ETA In typical island weather, todays schedule is delayed 4 hours, so if following the link above on the next two week's plan, just factor in wet and dodgy days over there. 1
ianali
I/we also follow the TT very closely. Like you we have never been across the water and watched it. Not sure why, we have been to loads of Morogp/Superbike Races all across Europe, but never the TT.. one day… Probably the wrong forum to admit this, but I much prefer bike racing over cars. Probably it’s because it takes me back to my youth. Enjoy watching Richard.
Richard (OldStager)
Don't worry you are not alone, bike racing and biking in general will always be my first love as it were, yes cars are fun and a 7 is perhaps the closest experience I can get without popping on a helmet once again. The car racing days were fun, but never that shear thrill of speed, it's quite a drug to be honest - and one that hard to give up too, lol.
MR.C
Just got mine again this year, week of practice week of racing can't go wrong for £20.
Richard (OldStager)
Quali 2 called off tonight, rain over the mountain section. Hoping to add into tomorrows coverage.
Man On The Clapham Omnibus
I watched a film of the history of the Dunlop clan of racers yesterday 'Road' on London Live channel. They're utterly addicted unto death - literally in their case. Very disturbing and moving.
Richard (OldStager)
Yes, there is only Michael left now, he is still racing though despite having more than first hand knowledge of the risks, as I said above its a drug, and some folks can never stop - until stopped. Man On The Clapham Omnibus
My (then) fiancée and I were at Brands Hatch in October 1965 when during a sidecar race the Swiss rider Florian Camathias crashed and was fatally injured. His passenger Franz Ducret (thanks Wikipedia) survived. A weld in his frame broke through (according to a metallurgist in my lab at Hoover) hydrogen embrittlement. I was also at Brighton Speed Trials in 2012 when Roger Hollingshead crashed his machine which was in the sidecar class. He was on the slowing down section at the end of the run when he veered off the course and hit a concrete bollard. He survived with major injuries and his passenger, Charlotte Tagg, died at the scene. She had been a last minute substitute for the listed passenger. I have been to very many car events of almost all sorts and never seen a major crash let alone a fatal.
Richard (OldStager)
I was at Donnington the year Mansell crashed into the bridge when he was in the mondeo, I was on the infield right opposite the scene, once rescue teams arrived, they put up big red sheets , we thought the worst, but as we all know he went on to still drive. Then ( on TV) I saw the Senna one, and then again on TV saw the Simonsen one with the aston and the tree ( le mans) All motorsport is dangerous, it even says that on the back of your ticket. Competitors except the risks.
