adhawkins Posted April 7, 2003 Posted April 7, 2003 I had a guy in a c******m follow me for a bit over the weekend. Wasn't sure whether to stop for a chat or not (or whether he would deign to stoop as low as to talk to a Westy owner). What's the form here when people see other owners. Should I have been more 'sociable'? Andy Quote
chrisbin Posted April 7, 2003 Author Posted April 7, 2003 Treat each case on its merits, I think. I would always wave/acknowledge another 7er, although they don't always do so back...... but thats their loss. As you will have seen, we have got together a group of Westy and c******m owners locally without a problem, on the basis that we all have the cars for the same mad reasons!! Of course there is some good natured ribbing, but nothing worse. Much like most of what is seen either here or on the "other side"..!! Bikers acknowledge/talk to other bikers, classic car people talk to each other etc etc But I'm not sure that if a c******m in front of me stopped, I would too - I'd probably give him a toot as I passed!!! DTH? Quote
chrisbin Posted April 7, 2003 Author Posted April 7, 2003 Here's an idea.....why don't you post the same question on Splatchat and compare and contrast the answers.......!! Quote
adhawkins Posted April 7, 2003 Posted April 7, 2003 I guess so, yeah... I'm not the world's greatest socialite, especially with people I don't know, so stopping in the street to talk to someone who I've never met purely on the basis that he drives a similar car to me (albeit a relatively specialised one) isn't really in my natural make up I'm afraid... I followed another guy in a Westfield up a country A road the other week too, and he turned off onto a minor road. Thinking about it afterwards, he could have been pulling over for a chat too...ah well, maybe next time Doesn't seem to be many (any?) people on here in the Swindon area, which is a shame. Andy Quote
chrisbin Posted April 7, 2003 Author Posted April 7, 2003 Yeah, neither Bristol or Cheltenham are exactly on your doorstep, are they? Mind you, blatting around the Cotswolds I would have thought you would find a few like minded individuals.... Quote
Noel Johnson Posted April 7, 2003 Posted April 7, 2003 Ha, Westy avatar ruined now! On a serious note though I've been accused of being a Cateringvan even though I hace a F*****ng big tyre cover that says Westfield on it - and this was facing the chap when he said it Another time I was with my Dad on Halfrauds car park when another chap looked at the car and said that "these Morgans are nice aren't they" Have fun, Noel Quote
chrisbin Posted April 8, 2003 Author Posted April 8, 2003 "these Morgans are nice aren't they" Believe it or not, had same thing - "look at that nice Morgan, son".......... So which part of "Westfield 16V" didn't they understand..... Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 Tough one this, It depends on wot mood I'm in. Of all the 7ners I've come across that includes locost, MK, catering vans etc the only one who didn't wave as I over took him was a guy in a brand new cateringvan. I think he shat himself thinking I wanted to race him. I tooted & waved he just ignored me... so I gave him some good ole' Yorkshire hospitality... the 'finger ' But u can always tell the cateringvans as u approach them, there rear ends are 12ft in the air, they look like dune buggies plus most of them are cliche BRG with a yellow strip But generally most 7ers will stop and have a chat. AdHawkins says he feels a little uneasy talking to 'park rangers' which is undestandable, where as I will chat if I have the time. People interest me plus I'm very nosey. I've heard some mad stories in my time and met some funny people . I was going over to Whitby one year, when I came a cross a Cobra which had broken down near the entrance to Flylingdale early warning base. I found out the driver was Russian plus he was holding a pair of binoculars about 2 look at the base which is not the thing to do with such a sensative site.He was waiting for the AA to arrive as his sump had cracked and had lost most of the oil from the engine. It was even funnier when the miltary police turned up to find out what was going on. They did laugh when he told them he was Russian!! The first year I had the Westfield I came a cross a guy driving a 350bhp cossie Dax. It was a fantastic car , we went for a bit of lunch in the local pub and chatted for hours. After that we saw each other on a regular basis, now we are married, have three kids a dog called bob and live in a little flowery cottage in Whitby by the sea ..... easy boyz...only joking! I'm not a rear gunner Buzz Quote

Alan7 Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 Hello from a Cateringvan - see some of us will talk to anyone Even trade insults with Chris over a friendly pint - if he ever gets round to buying one What the does it matter who's driving what - it's who's behind the wheel that counts. Some :A***:s will ignore you anyway but most . Life would be oh so boring if we all drove the same car, drank the same beer, supported the same football club etc etc etc etc . Just cos one car is percieved as inferior or suprior - so what - that's only an opinion. Once had an MGB which I thought was the bees knees - looking back it was total but not to me at the time. Drive what you want, speak to who you want. If you get ignored you know you're superior. Lifes too short. Quote
CateringVan Posted April 8, 2003 Posted April 8, 2003 I'll talk to anyone too, shutting me up is usually the problem I dont see many Westies around here but I always give them a wave when I do. Unfortunately a friend of mine has gone totally against my and several other people's advice and bought a Robin Hood. I did my best to persuade him that the Westfield way was best for him and his budget but to no avail. I dont quite know what to do about it especially as he now wants to go on a blat with me Quote
chrisbin Posted April 8, 2003 Author Posted April 8, 2003 Even trade insults with Chris over a friendly pint - if he ever gets round to buying one Don't forget, Alan, you are only paying your debt to me for introducing you to the delights of 7-ing......!! As for the rest - well said! Still, I suppose it may be a product of where you are from/live....not everyone is as friendly as the Welsh... Quote
