New Mega S2000 owner

Hi,

New to the forum and westfield ownership. I've bought a Mega S2000 on Saturday. What a car. Loving it so far. I believe the car is known to the forum already.

My previous car was a busa powered, rear engined car. A mevabusa. So I am enjoying the better practical experience with the cec. I also feel more comfortable taking my kids in it, especially being fully caged.

My 1st question, is there anything I should really know about the S2000 and if there's anything to keep an eye on?

straight off, I need to figure how to upload photos easily

Cheers

Dean

Welcome Dean!!

Photos are a must, get learning how to upload quickly, although I think you will have to become a full member to upload photos.

Sounds like a great car.

Hiya Dean, welcome to a great club, so much in-tel from a vast array of like minded folks. In 11 months of asking some mad questions, never less than 5 responses to everything & no such thing as a silly question. Learnt so much so quick & use the forum daily for parts & Tech Talk a bargain investment for the yearly subs. Car looks stunning & good job you posted pic’s I quickly found out it was “the law” to do so.
Where in the country see ya? Phil R

Hey Phil, haha yeah I was panicking when I couldn't post the picture straight away. I am up in the North of Northumerland.

Me and my eldest were looking to build. We've just overhauled a gen 1 busa engine and have a 3.14 diff to match.

But when we seen this red beauty come up, it took some man maths to convince the wife, this was a better solution. We are beyond happy with it so far.

Welcome from South Derbyshire!

A red Toybox MegaS2000, they are just so common! Here's mine (with the aero screen) meeting another 😂

There are a few of us about (lots more knowledgeable than me!) that will be able to advise on the S2000.

Things off the top of my head are, they can use a bit of oil (normal but stay on top of it), timing chain tensioners are known to get noisy on the F20c (a simple swap if it happens) and the clutch pedal can be overly heavy (a simple master cylinder upgrade will help if it hasn't already been done).

Apart from a clutch failure (the builder of my car used a "genuine uprated clutch" from Ebay that was anything but genuine or uprated 🤦‍♂️😂) my car has been superb in the 14,000 (very fast) miles I've covered.

Haha and here's me thinking I was buying a rare car.

The red and black though is so nice in the sun.

Here's mine with a sierra DOHC based car we built when I was in school, following the Ron Champion book. Ours is full stainless steel chassis and independent rear suspension rather than the escort axel the book called for.

Me old man has just ordered a set of LED headlights to upgrade his though, after seeing mine.

Thanks for the tips Rob, it's just had a service, so I'll keep checking to see how she goes over the summer.

The car is currently intermittently missing a cylinder, so I've 4 coil packs on order. Hopefully that sorts it and it's not an early headache starting in the 1st days of ownership. It's not been enough to take the smile off my face just yet.

They are still fairly rare and usually hold their value well.

If this doesn't fix it. It could be the TPS (Throttle position sensor). When does the misfire occur, light throttle?

Keep smiling, they're great fun.

When you've got a day or two to spare 😉 Take a walk through my build and ownership thread- Bagpuss build and ownership thread.

As others have said key mods I'd suggest you do: shorten gear stick, change throttle cable for slick ptfe coated mountain bike cable, change clutch M/C, roughen timing chain tensioner etc.

Lovely car and welcome. If you do need a shortened gear stick let me know I have loads of them kicking about from rebuilding the gearboxes lol.

The clutch is night and day different with the advised replacement clutch slave and rob has covered oil usage. Just enjoy it, I’m sure you will figure it all out and there is plenty of help on here if needed.

The misfire is in the low rev range, it seems to rev out of it if you give it some throttle. It only starts to appear when engine bay temperatures start to climb. So cold start from the garage and initial drive out, it is fine. Then comes in after sometime.

The recommendations all sound great. The dash has a Ctek socket, so I also want to get the trickle charger to be able to plug it in. The car also has plumbed fire extinguisher system, but I cannot see a cylinder anywhere. I'll have to chase the lines, but does anyone know where the bottle should've been and where I could get a replacement?

There's not many places to put a cylinder. If it's not in the passenger footwell, perhaps it's been removed?
