marc Posted January 25, 2002 Posted January 25, 2002 Could any body tell me what is the best? I have just had my engine re-bored to 2.1 (piston ring blew in oct) had new kent cam fitted and work done on my head unit, bigger valves etc. But I only have single carb 38DGAS..... I have come accross a set of twin Dellortos 40's but have been told that Webber 45's are better for my engine, can anyone help me? Also does anyone know a good rolling road in the Berkshire area so I can get these all tuned? Thanks fairly new Westy Driver Quote
Chris Elworthy Posted January 26, 2002 Posted January 26, 2002 marc. I am not an expert by any means, but from discussion over the last couple of years I gather that at least 45s are recommended for anything around 2 litres even in mild tune. I also gather that the Dellorto's are probably a slightly better Carb, but there are fewer people around with the tuning experience of them, and who carry stocks of jets and so on. I don't know of anyone in Berkshire, but if you are prepared to drive 50 miles north I have had very good experiences of Shaw & Upton in Daventry (near J16 M1). Lastly, when I was shopping around for Webers, I found that I couldn't beat the Westfield factory prices (two years ago). Good Luck Quote
Korky Posted January 26, 2002 Posted January 26, 2002 Marc I run twin 40 dellorto's on my 2lt pinto it has mild road cam and ported head. They give loads of torque but run out of breath at about 6,500 rpm. This makes it a dream to drive on the road, but for track days it lacks top end power but some of this is down to the cam i'm using. Talk to Tiger cars they have built a lot of pintos with 40's. Buzz Billsberry Posted January 28, 2002 Posted January 28, 2002 Hi Marc I run twin 45 Dellis on my VX 2.0 ltr 16v XE and they're fine the engine revs 7750 rpm and fuelling isn't a problem @ hi revs pumping is thro' a Red top Facet fuel pump. Parts are plentiful; in Yorkshire anyway and we've got one of the best engine tunners in the UK up here Dave Bogg Engineering. I've always used dellis over webbers 'cause they help produce better mid range- torque on the XE engine and has been backed up many a time in mag articles plus bits are cheaper. No idea for delli bits/prices in your area Hope this helps Buzz Quote
